"Like many thrilling things women do—fucking or hitchhiking, being demoniacally ambitious or telling an asshole to stick a chainsaw in his eye"

No surprise that sex is on her list of FOUR "thrilling things women do."

"—society tells us that growing up leads to ruin. Yes, you get older, but you can also grow tougher, kinder, braver."

For sure! And smarter! Maybe trained in martial arts? Why not a dozen hobbies?! A woman can work as hard as a man and achieve as much as she ages... she just won't be as sexually attractive to the vast majority of men as she was when she was 22. This is the ONLY problem, and one that women cannot get over.

"But as you age, the world will tell you you're less worthy, even if you know that's a lie. If there's one thing society won't stand for, it's for a woman to be content."

Hamster hamster hamster. One thing makes you less worthy- ONE THING.

The real Red Pill for women is to get over it and not give a fuck. Think of how much a woman can achieve if she just got over the fact that at 35 she gets far less sexual attention. Of course, trying to change the world is much easier.

You just reminded me of a great quote from a friend of mine.

When men have a problem with themselves, they will try to change themselves to fix it. Women will try to change everyone else in the world instead.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When men want to get to the top, they put their boots on and trudge as hard as they can to reach the summit gloriously.

Women plant the flag wherever they are currently at, declare it the top, then complain at everybody else that disagrees.

Wise women do gain worth as they age, of course. They just lose sexual value. Many feminists seem to be working to obfuscate this fact through propaganda that confuses SMV with non-sexual utility.

Won't ever work though. Sexual attraction is not significantly affected by culture or feminist women wouldn't fuck alphas and deride Nice Guys.

In most fields, men have the power. Drinking the countless cocktails with which I solidified professional relationships, I got used to dreading propositions.

How many of those professional cocktails did you let the dreadful man pay for, out of curiosity?

It must be so bizarre to be a moderately attractive woman. Like having a Faustian devil grant you a temporary power to exert mind control over half the population. This power slowly fades over time and then you realize, only too late, that you've been skating on bullshit the entire time. That you're not as charming or pleasant as you've been led to believe, that soon you'll be judged for what you actually bring to the table. Men learn this as soon as they leave home in their 20s so it doesn't shock our systems and we're a decade ahead of women in actually coping with that reality.

This un-self-aware woman doesn't admit to misusing that power even once. It's all about being catcalled and having crickets dumped on her. No mention of leading her beta-orbiters on, or that married guy she probably fucked (maybe with Whiskey! In New York! At 4AM!).

This is just Hamstering with an MFA in Creative Writing. It's telling that she shoehorns in Zora Neale Hurston. Literate fems love to pretend they relate so much to the plight of black women in the pre-civil rights era. I swear to god every single woman over 30 I know has a Billie Holiday poster in her house.

If there's one thing society won't stand for, it's for a woman to be content.

Please leave us alone.

what is hamstering?

Innocence is not doing....Not drinking whiskey till 4 AM. Not fucking that boy or girl because they make your heart scream electric, then waking up unpunished the next day.

You were punished - by Father Time. That's why you now look haggard and don't get "propositioned" any more, in your own words. Hard living and bad decisions meant you lost your physical appeal and earned your loneliness.

And is it just me or do you often see these women who foolishly squandered their sexual prime chalk it up to some mediocre career they've built. Has anyone told them they could have spent their prime landing the right guy, AND maintained their mediocre career.

It's almost like if they fuck up in the relationship marketplace, they can always argue, "I didn't fail in relationships, I succeeded in being a True, "Independent" Hard-Core, Feminist -- yeah, it was intentional!" If no guy hangs around, just say you're all about your career (as if they're somehow mutually exclusive).

[–]MrStinky 24 points25 points26 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Thirty is supposed to be the beginning of the end of hot girlhood. Sexual attractiveness is too red-raw basic to deny. It's the one power the world grudgingly grants to women.

Yes. The ONLY power that is given to them

As you age you gain clarity. You lose what fucks you had to give.

...as she writes a whole piece of how many fucks she still gives

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Given vs earned or taken. Men aren't given much of anything, and if they dont work for it, they won't get it. Some males are given, but the vast majority have to bust their ass to get anything.

This bitch is whining because now she has to earn something because she lost what she was given. Boo fucking hoo.

[–]randomdude600 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This IMO is part of the reason for feminists always hamming about how the world is stacked against them. Young women enjoy a genetic celebrity that opens far more doors and opportunities than they can possibly be aware of (especially now with affirmative action and hiring quotas). When they finally get around to actually applying themselves to something after spending their early-mid twenties "finding themselves" and "growing as women" they discover the real world of mostly meritocratic achievement. With their genetic celebrity gone or fading fast they must actually earn respect and success in their career etc. Working side by side with men who have had to earn respect their entire lives from peers and society and constantly prove themselves they are completely out of their depth. Feminism rides to the rescue by telling them it's societies fault so rather than improving themselves many women just say it's the world's fault and carry on their (not so) merry way.

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How many people want to be given something for free? Think about it, they try to make you feel guilty, make you believe you have it better so you should hand over cash to the less fortunate. In this country, you need to go out and earn a living not ask for a handout. If I can drag myself out of a shithole multiple times in my life, anyone can do it if they put in the fucking work.

Every time I have had to rebuild my life since I left my abusive family at 17, has been due to a woman fucking it up, trying to get something for sleeping with me, and the states handing her anything she wanted of mine.

[–]Endorsed Contributornyrp 21 points22 points23 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Age is a weapon society uses against women.

Oh, fucking society and the dread day they invented time and biology!!!!!!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah its societies fault. She is apart of society. Just like she is a part of morning rush hour traffic.

[–]rarlcove 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I recently read an article in my school newspaper ranting about how terrible standardized tests are and why they should be abolished. Nestled in the article was the confession that the (female) author had done poorly on the LSAT and can't get into a decent law school.

Deflecting personal failures onto "society" is so common it's gotten boring.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A woman complaining about the wall is like a man complaining about the fact women like men with money. Pointless, focus on what is in your power to control.

[–]paidthecost 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Meh I thought it was a good article. She's got a solid pengame.

She admitted she's lost some youth and beauty but she's smarter and wiser. Basically she was saying she knows a lot of guys will find her less attractive but she doesn't really give a shit anymore.

Seemed pretty thoroughly introspective to me.

[–]SomersetRaglan 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

its nice to see some people left their pitchforks at home today

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No kidding, it was reasonable and poignant. She said some traditionally feminist phrases, but overall it was mainly introspective in an artistic and poetic style. I really dislike this hunt for looking to berate any women who talks about issues of age or sex without first giving her a proper reading and analysis as an individual (opposed to defining her only by her gender).

To be fair, I read tons of shit that satisfies your writing at Jezebel etc, but this just wasn't that bad... I fail to see her blaming society or men for her age. She even admits youth fades and it's just how life is. She doesn't argue youth is a social construct or deny biology, rather she reflects on it.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I already posted this.

The main thing she doesn't understand is that it's NOT about beauty or even about youth, it's about FERTILITY.

Female fertility is a limited resource. Half the population may be female, but most of them are infertile. Also, statutes legislate away several more years of fertility. So you have women aged 18 to 36. That's an 18 year window. Now, many men desire women aged 18 to 25. That's a 7 year window. So, women within that age frame are the most desired for their fertility. 100% of the heterosexual male population is interested in women aged 18-25.

And yet, does she mention any of this? No, of course not. They all just wanted to fuck her because she's beautiful because she's young, not because they are following a biologically hardwired reproductive drive grafted to hedonic pleasure-seeking for evolutionary reasons. But a lot of career people don't want children. They want recognition, fame, fortune, personal freedom, etc. Children are perceived as a sacrifice.

[–]6TLaRm4g5 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, in the whole rant not a single damn word about fertility and children. It's feels like, according to her, children appear out of nowhere, instead of being given birth from young and healthy women.

You don't see her complaining? The gist of her complaining nature is whining that men don't see her as special anymore now that she's 30 AND also complaining that when they did fawn all over her (in her 20s), THAT was aggravating as well.

Here's her complaining about becoming 'invisible': "Thirty, like 40 or 50, is a demarcation line, but a particularly loaded one. Cross it, says the world, and you leave the trifling-but-addictive privileges of girlhood behind. Invisibility this way, ma'am." (somehow she's complaining about being invisible at 30, and yet she also complained how men always noticed her and propositioned her in her 20s and how much that bothered her)

Here's her complaining about society's negative influence towards women: "But as you age, the world will tell you you're less worthy, even if you know that's a lie. If there's one thing society won't stand for, it's for a woman to be content." (overstating the issue; yes her SMV drops, but companies will find older women more experienced, etc. She is exaggerating both the intent of society and the degree of consequence for 30-something women)

Who is this boogeyman that is responsible for her saying things like "Saying I was 30 I pointlessly despised.". No one 'despises' her for being 30. What she's really saying is she misses the male attention and their uncritical behavior towards her that she got when she was in her 20s. Yet, she spends a fair portion of her article attacking that 'attention' she got earlier in her life in the rest of her article.

If that's not complaining, I don't know what is. There's never a point when men and society aren't somehow out to make her life miserable. When you identify as a victim, you will always dwell and magnify the negative aspects in any dynamic and relationship with the 'oppressor'. The villain must remain the villain for your identity to have meaning.

she's not complaining. she says thats what society tries to get people to believe, not that thats the actual situation.

[–]2jagrmeister721 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let's take that one step further. Let's say society is successful in convincing people that women past 30 are to be ignored. That they do "use age as a weapon" against her. There goes all the "electric sex" with the random guys she would meet. Things that she claims make her single life worthwhile will be gone soon. She too is addicted to the priveleges of girlhood. Like most women, she wants her cake and eat it too. #1 on her thrill-list is fucking. There's going to be less fucking for her and far lower quality of it as the new 20-somethings replace her. She mentions casual sex multiple times in a positive light in her article; and yet her sex life in her 30s will wane.

In a way, I understand her bitterness. She wants to age as men age where our dignity and value increase, and our sex lives can remain just as high quality, through our 30s, 40s, and sometimes beyond. We all have to play the hand we've been dealt. The window for sexual prime for women is far narrower than men, a fact of life.

In debate terms, all my arguments flowed through. In other words, you didn't address a single point I made but rather made unrelated points. Generally not an advisable way to have a discussion, but to each their own.

[–]SomersetRaglan 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

am i missing something here? she doesnt sound that upset about getting older.

[–]hurricaneivan117 -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it's more of the undertone. A numb acceptance that many could interpret as underlying frustration.

[–]SomersetRaglan 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this is really stretching it. should we collect everything any middle aged woman writes and claim that the undertone supports trp?

im all for empowering ourselves and fighting the matriarchy, but the title of this post is pretty insulting. she doesnt blame society, and contrary to hitting the wall, she seems to be accepting it.

she also (and this is rare for a female writer) doesnt come across as a whiner. she doesnt complain. she invites other women to not let getting old make them think theyre worthless and life is going to suck now.

other than her being an artist, she seems like a reasonable person, and doesnt appear to have been a hopeless slut in her youth.

she also displays the intelligence that allows her to pick up on the different way age affects men and women's value. and like trp says to do, she finds happiness and fulfillment in not letting validation from others be the source of her happiness. also how is this a meta discussion?

[–]AlfredTheGreatest 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I thought this article was pretty insightful. She realizes she's hitting the wall and is coming to terms with it, eyes open. The only other option is bitterness.

[–]specter504 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whoa Guys - This is what we believe...

  1. Our society has thrown out biologically established rules of inter-sex relations.
  2. Our society encourages women to be whores.
  3. Women hit the wall.

Yeah, this is totally society's fault. We should take pity on these women (just be sure not to pity fuck them).

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the world will tell you you're less worthy, even if you know that's a lie. If there's one thing society won't stand for, it's for a woman to be content.

"All evidence points towards me being unattractive, but I'm going to ignore that and put it down to the fact that society just hates me."

You think you're being oppressed because society doesn't validate your insecurities...

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Damn you, Patriarchy, for making me human and incapable of eternal youth!

This piece is truly priceless. Comedy gold.

Innocence is a relic of a time when women had the same legal status as children. Innocence is beneficial to your owner. It benefits you not at all.

Curse you, Patriarchy, for making actions have consequences!

[–]ilike2partyhowaboutu -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

By 30 you're no longer a child

Beg to differ!

Also we could just decide to stop fucking any woman over 30 years or older, period. Let's see how they handle that.
