There was a time when feminists thought toxic traditional feminine roles were part of the problem, but that was before the big push in the early 80s for women to go into the corporate world, when they slammed up against the stone wall of reality of what men’s lives were actually like, as opposed to their envious fantasies.

Oh yes – men lived lives of privilege they told themselves, privilege denied to women for no good reason at all! They went off to stimulating, fulfilling jobs while women stayed home up to their elbows in exploding diapers, muffled in Feminine Mystique…. Men went from exciting, fulfilling jobs to exciting golf to exciting all-male clubs where they plotted world domination.

Then women started entering the corporate world as something above clerical help and slammed right into the reality of the lives of the men they aspired to joining. What they found didn’t align, not at all, with their understanding of those men and those exciting, fulfilling lives they supposedly enjoyed at the expense of women – that unimpeachable understanding of the oppressor that all oppressed unfailingly have. They found cutthroat competition. They found dehumaninzing objectification of people as nothing more than units of production. They found they were 20 years behind their male peers in learning the social skills they needed to succeed – an impregnable, inscrutable game face that never, ever betrayed fear or pain, lack of any interest in pleasing people as a source of validation rather than benefit – basically learning all the things little boys had better learn before they are 10.

A pattern I've noticed is the New York Times' fear and loathing of prosperity in North Dakota. It's weird. The normal human reaction to a cold, emptying-out place finally getting a lucky break would be, "Oh, that's nice." But to the NYT, North Dakota is an endless horrorshow of cashiers making $24 per hour and other atrocities.

These young men are interested in women, and sometimes try to interact with them. An advertisement featuring local Indian lasses being “leered” at by young men prompted the good people of our urban centers to react with shock and indignation. What savagery will the oil industry afflict us with next?

In all seriousness, it’s disheartening to see that ordinary young American men have come to be seen as a “problem.” Even more so that even the productive, hard-working ones are viewed with fear and suspicion. Of course there will be more problems when there are more young men, but the same goes for any other large group of people. I could easily write an article about the consequences of a sudden influx of young women. The title could go something like this: “New University Branch Campus Means More Young Women — And More Gonorrhea,” and it would be totally accurate. But people wouldn’t think it was a very nice or fair article. However, they recoil in fear when we talk about “young men.” What a terrible problem these young men must be for society. Why, we’d all be better off with a nation of old people, babies and women. As soon as the boys hit puberty, they are a menace until enfeebled with age.

Welcome to the world of the slightly below average man. I don't mean that in a disparaging way, as I have a lot of respect for people who are willing to do hard work to earn their living. But this is the lifestyle for most men who were not fortunate enough to get into college and straight into a well paying, comfortable office job and become one of "the suits". 40% of males are arrested before they are 23 (and as high as 50% for minorities such as blacks). People with criminal records are not going to get high paying, cushy white collar jobs. Some people come from poor backgrounds and can't afford to go to college. What do middle class white women think happens to these men?

Middle class white women / feminists only see the top 20% of men. The bottom half is completely invisible, they are lumped in with people like rapist, criminals, big foot, and the boogie man. That's why when they actually have to do what the average man has to do for a living, they freak out. And I'm not even talking about the bottom quarter of men, who has it a lot worse.

I have zero sympathy for this woman. What she is missing is that the company, or "the suits" as she calls them, doesn't care about her living situation. She is getting paid market value for driving a truck. There are plenty of people out there who would do her job for the same amount of money. All she does is drive a truck to and from work sites. There is no reason she should be getting paid more.

It's the same thing as fast food workers. Fast food workers get paid minimum wage to put buns and patties together. They think that they need to be paid more because their job is "important." They're wrong. Anybody can walk into a McDonald's and learn how to make the food. They can beg for high wages all they want but their market value is still next to nothing. They are easily replaced, and might be soon:

Meh she went up with no skills and because she is a woman she won't do any of the really dirty, dangerous highly paid work.

She gets paid to sit in a nice warm truck and drive everyday, and she is paid approately for it.

She doesn't have any special skills. Anyone can get the license she has, so it's a flooded market.

Again, sad case of a woman making an awful career choice, and expecting society to bail her out for it.

If she had any fucking brains, she would learn to at least become a mechanic, and earn some REAL money.

She won't because that work is actually hard, and dirty. She won't be able to sit in a nice warm cab with her dog.

There are a few of these stories floating around. (More common in the 70s.) The gist is a woman living life as a man. The arc is always the same:

1) I'm going to live life like a man! Men have it so easy! I'm going to have a great time, make lots of money, and retire early!

2) This sucks. Wow, it's so much easier to be a woman.

3) I'm going back to being a woman. It's far easier.

This story doesn't get to 3.

All the things she complains about men, including myself, had to go through frequently. No one cared before. Why should we give a shit just because it's a woman?

This is so aggravating. She finally has to get a real job, not HR or being an admin, and she finally sees what bullshit men have to go through just to earn money. At least she doesn't have to worry about going to prison for not being able to pay for a kid she's not allowed to see.

Why did she not get better endorsements to do higher paying work? A new driver with no additional endorsements isn't going to get high paying work anywhere. Even if the company was inclined to help you get those endorsements you still have to grind and show value to get it.

Not meaning to be a dick, but . . . from a cursory look at it there isn't anything there that really slipstrems into the "TRP vs feminism narrative".

I grew up around the fossil fuel industries (in fact my dad was an oil field worker who married a waittress) and there's nothing there that really jumps out as anything that guys don't complain about in that situation.
