Ah the good ol' days. I was genuinely surprised that they left the spanking scene in the remake of True Grit a couple years ago.

First the movies, then TV, then real life.

Example: smoking. First started to be removed from movies, then TV followed, now (in a lot of places in North Am at least) you can't find the "smokey old bar room/pool hall" of many great country songs.

Germany and Russia declared war on Poland within two weeks of each other. Britain and France declared war on Germany, but left Russia alone - why? The growing German-European colonial empire (which up until this point had been formed peacefully) was threatening the global imperial interests of England/France/America.

Same with Japan, their goals to a build an Imperial Asia threatened America's interests in the Pacific, so placed a trade embargo upon them (by this point America had been undertaking various military actions against Japan for more than a century so that they would trade on America's terms), forcing Japan to declare war. Well I don't know who did or did not know about 9/11 beforehand although I personally find it hard to believe that US mercenaries who had fought through proxy and alongside America in multiple wars (Afghanistan, Kosovo, etc...) would suddenly launch an attack against the US and not a single government official was aware that such an event would occur. And after the attack they would still continue to be on US payrolls and fight to overthrow various governments that inconvenienced NATO operations.

She's emotionally black-mailing McClintock (John Wayne) into shooting her boyfriend when she says "If you loved me" or "If you're truly my father".

It was interesting that McClintock used that blank gun to show her a lesson. She was unable to comprehend the consequences of having a man killed off because he made a criticism of her until she was actually faced with it. Never mind the hamstering at the end where she dismisses her intentions by saying that it's all OK since he didn't actually get hurt.

Edit: Just wanted to add that in the movie, our protagonist is separated from his wife for a couple of years. I'm sure you can guess who was raising the daughter during this period of time.

While it is possible for men and women to do some crazy, manipulative shit to get back at people, this video serves as an example of how some women can emotionally blackmail significant others and male family members into getting physically involved in disputes that were rather insignificant until blown out of proportion. Her demand is a demand of life and death though she does not understand the consequences. When faced with the consequences, she is incapable of dealing with them. This is a perfect example of female solipsism that results in men paying the price, which is an all-too-common problem.

Also, let's face it: Most men would just directly confront someone or at worst be a little passive-aggressive as opposed to using appeals to honor on other men to get them to do the fighting. How often do you see men acting the way Becky did? If you have any examples, I would like to read about them.

Men write about women all the time and vice versa. That's even "harder" because in literature, a characters inner thoughts are also exposed to the reader. Here, we have a film, which does not expose a character's inner thoughts. Thus, characters, for the most part, can be written based solely on observation. Violence by proxy did happen, and still does.

Shaming a man's ego by calling into question their loyalty, honor, self-respect, or toughness in order to coerce him to do a woman's bidding is hardly a fictional female tactic. Women who do not possess the physical strength or influence to punish another person for any wrongdoing, perceived or real, have recruited proxies to do so.

Is this movie scene entertaining? Sure. Is it intended to be the basis for making an argument? No. It's a fictional take on a known strategy, and its closeness to reality (as well as Wayne's casual over-the-top call on his daughter's bluff) gives it its comedic value.
