Pretty much what banana said. He has a lot of mental illness on his side of the family and she doesn't want her child to have it because she wants "total control" so she wants to bang some dude.

Actually, this is a okay reason: there's a difference between getting an artificial insemination for genetic/medical/legit reasons and just demanding to fuck someone else.

That says nothing about whether he should passively let her steam-roll him on that sort of decision, however.
