Your dad is an alpha or your mom is a clinger. Things aren’t so black and white in the real world like it is in theory. He could have been her first or maybe she’s religious or whatever the fuck there’s just too much we don’t know.

We don't have enough info, there could be many reasons.

Perhaps she felt like he was the best she could do.
Perhaps she felt embarrassed that other people knew about it and thought it would hurt her social standing.
Maybe she thought she thought he would get obsessed with the other girl and she would lose his resources.
Maybe she realized she didn't have the power and control over him that she thought she had.

Even if your girl is planning on leaving you, branch swinging and so on she will still feel hurt if you leave her before she does. They feel rejected, and its no good feeling for anyone really.
