Why are men less aware of psychological states?

Women and men have different brains. Women are generally able to read body language better. Men are also socialized to not understand and analyze their emotions.

I’m often aware of my gf’s emotional state. I just think it’s oftentimes invalid or humorous, so she believes I am unaware of how she feels.

She gets upset sometimes when I see this one friend who she believes is beneath me. He’s not that bad of a dude but nevertheless she claims it speaks poorly to my character.

I criticized her character yesterday because she is going to a bachelorette brunch for a girl who has herpes and has yet to tell the groom to be lmao I said that spoke poorly of her character and she became livid.

So I poked and prodded at her asking why she is so intellectually inconsistent. Im sure she wanted to hit me on the head with a wine bottle but in my opinion her anger was invalid and my logic was perfect. So my indifference to her feelings made it appear as if I was unaware of how she felt. Truth be told, I wasn’t unaware of how she felt... I just thought her feelings were bullshit and invalid.

I don't know. As a socially anxious person, I'm keenly aware of other people's psychological states. I think many men have a bold approach to life though and are into implementing their plans regardless of how the other person's psychological state, so perhaps that is where it comes from - a testosterone thing.

I think women evolved to be more sensitive to and aware of emotional states because their ancestral survival more heavily depended on it

Honestly? Men just don't care as much about psychological states, and also they also lack experience, because they didn't care about it in the past either.

Men by large are task oriented. They care about theories, action, things, objects, etc. Women are people oriented. They care about peoples feelings, thoughts, behaviors etc.

The only reason why a man would think of a person's "body language" or "thoughts" is if it is needed for a task, i.e. they wouldn't instantly care like women do. So they lack even the experience to perceive such small acts, unless they are primarily focused on a task which needs such perception in the long run (like TRP)

Often I see men with absolutely no awareness at all of signs of body language; while the person they are speaking to is at the cusp of bashing them over the head with a wine bottle over something they see as minor disagreement.

Yes, men seem to project and consider anything that is not directly communicated as minor/imperceptible. But you have to be quite nuts to consider violence before direct communication. Men may fail to not pickup social cues, because they don't care nor hate the experience, but women have fully understanding of the language and a working mouths and rational minds. Why not just talk like an adult?

Less aware or simply choosing to ignore? As a someone who has always valued logic, reason, and regulating emotions I often find myself simply tuning out when people make emotional arguments, especially when it’s belligerent simply because that’s not the manor in which polite society operates. This is not a result of me being unaware, it’s a matter of me drawing a firm line in the sand based on what I value when interacting with others.

However, to my knowledge it is true that on average men have lower emotional intelligence than women.

Western culture dragged men through two world wars and a bunch of smaller ones over a century. The men who couldn't repress their shit died or faced consequence. They taught that attitude to their kids. Equivalent shit happened essentially everywhere.

If you think western women are touchy feely just watch a couple of chinese gal pals or indian male besties go about their day. There's way more talking and physical touch.
