I/we have had numerous people ask recently "if they can mod this subreddit because it's going to shit" or something along those lines. We will always ignore people who request to moderate here.

We pick you and we do that by noticing you. The nature of this subreddit is controversial enough, we're not going to mod randoms on the off-chance that they will do a good job at cleaning house. This should go without saying, but if you ask if we will make you a moderator, the answer is always no. You shouldn't need to ask. If we thought you were good enough to moderate here, we'd have made you a moderator already.

Even among our established members, certain personality types simply aren't suited to the task. We've had a number of moderators in our time who no longer moderate here (I'm not going to name names because I give less fucks about meta politics than a bitch wondering if she looks fat in her new dress.) This is merely a point of proof that when a personality doesn't gel with the other mods, or thinks they can act independently of the approval of a majority within the modship, that they'll get exiled. Likewise, rather than actually go through all that bullshit we rather have someone to begin with that we know doesn't care about being "the top mod" or some other retard shit, but knows how to work as part of a team. A lot of men, no matter how alpha or macho they are, suck at team work and deferring to others. Men with attitude problems and a lack of social skill in that capacity need not apply.

As for the sub going to shit, everyone needs to pull their weight. The last time I made a sticky ranting away, I actually baited out a lot of people with the sticky and managed to ban about 20 people off responses to my thread alone (good stuff.) Likewise there was an uptake in comment reports for about a week and a half. But it seems as if, out of sight out of mind is the prevailing principle as since then reports on crappy posts have gone back down again. You need to keep the reports up. You save us a shit ton of time searching for crappy posts when we have them all consolidated into one page. If you are moaning the sub is going to crap but you never report anything then you're part of the problem.

I'll mention another thing while I'm here. If you're not an endorsed contributor, what makes you think you can skip that step and immediately become a moderator? Eh, the mind boggles. Likewise just because you're an EC, doesn't mean you will get made a mod. We tend to pick mods from the pool of ECs, but that doesn't mean every EC will eventually make it to mod. In fact, the majority will not.

On the topic of promotions, feel free to leave any names in the comments of people you think contribute mightily to the subreddit but don't get noticed enough round here. Then when I can set some time aside (and perhaps some of the other mods will look at some of the recommendations too) I'll take a look. I'm looking to promote a few ECs. If you recommend yourself, I'll just ban you for wasting my time, bullshit tolerance is practically zero.
