Huh? It is a novel about a very weird pedophile guy in 50s America, written from his point of view, and containing satirical elements about US culture of that time. The author was one of the best novelists of the 20th century, and he could have written an intriguing story about drying paint.

She does not seduce him, this is in fact part of the protagonists wild rationalizations and justifications as you would expect a pedophile to engage in. With Nabokov, you shoud never take his characters' voices at face value.

Because it was the only major work about its subject (not surprising, given the controversy), and because "Lolita" is a kind of memorable name, it took off as a code word for … all kinds of things. They have as much to do with the novel as MILF porn has to do with American Pie.

There was a magazine called Gothic and Lolita Bible that started that trend and it's not in the US.

A lot of stuff gets lost in translation in non English speaking countries. Most people just think the book Lolita is about "pedophilia".

the fashion style is Japanese and is styled vaguely after Victorian clothes with a Gothic flair. I don't think it necessarily has a direct relationship to the novel, probably more of a lost-in-translation issue than anything.

A lot of expressions in modern language have morbid, gruesome or less-than-PC origins.

P sure the fashion movement is from Japan, and people conflate that with the lolicon which is short for "Lolita complex" (bc they use 'n' for M).

That refers specifically to the mental/emotional complex of older dudes fetishizing the lolita fashion movement. Not fetishizing the actions of the dude in the novel.

(Note, the original meaning of "lolita complex" was from an English speaker, who was referring to the pedophilia itself. But then Japan co-opted that terminology and some people use it's intended meaning while others simply use it to mean fetishizing the lolita fashionistas.)

Words mean different things to different people (& cultures). The tumblrinas insistence that her interpretation of the word is the only correct one is an act of cultural aggression.
