I would say that most people do not have the drive to become successful, or to rise to the top of their fields. And that is okay! Most people, frankly, do not have the capacity to do so, regardless of their drive. Hard work will get you a long way, but absent a certain amount of intellectual horsepower and creativity, you will still be hosed if you hope to get past a certain level.

I find the question of whether or not others despise those with drive and smarts to be a complete non-issue. You think Ronda Rousey gives a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut if some chick she never heard of thinks she's an ugly muscular bitch? The true elite live in a bubble of ambitious, high-performing people, and take it for granted that everybody around them wants to achieve at the same level they do.

I'd say it's a mix of things - many women may not have the drive and desire to come out on top or any reason to develop said drive. Increased testosterone in men makes them more aggressive and aggression in this sense is the higher "drive" and desire to be competitive and come out on the very top. Additionally, after a certain point in a career, making it to the very top requires literal aggression in the sense that one must beat his competitors and be confrontational - many women and more timid men shy away from this but it's the only way to have a millin dollad business or rise up to upper management.

If there are two equally skilled workers but one is constantly boasting his achievements to the boss, asking for raises, hinting at a promotion or the desire to do more for the company, actively and loudly asking for the new best projects and making a very open display of what he is capable of professionally while the other one is more passive, quiet and humble about his own work, the former one will most likely be noticed more and seem as more competent.

If testosterone increases the former behavior then men with a lot of testoserone will be more likely to express this behavior and be promoted.

/u/ArthurMacArthur is right that most people do not have that drive, although I disagree that most people do not have the capacity. They absolutely do. You do not need to be high IQ to succeed in business. Most self-made millionaires are just middlemen. You just need to find your niche and have knowledge of it and you need to not be afraid of failure. Most people however are very afraid of failure and lack motivation to try doing anything by themselves regardless. Most people like to hamster this away by talking about how they aren't capable, it makes them feel better about never even trying. I say this is bullshit. Only one person holds you back from trying to be successful and you can see them in a mirror.

[Edit: oh, and unsuccessful people of either gender also despise successful people of either gender, as a general rule. "envy is unhappy admiration."]

Anyway, back onto the real topic of your question. It is true that men are more likely to engage in risk taking behaviour than women, which gives them a big head start if we're talking about business because that's half the criteria right there.

However, women can and do achieve great things in their own right. Those women tend to have more masculine personalities, but they succeed as well as a man could.

I know this is anecdotal but I look up to my mum as a great example of this. She came from a poor background and worked her way up to be UMC. And she worked very very hard. She didn't have to, she should have chosen an easy job and lived in council housing like everyone else she knew, but she wanted something better and worked for it. I have mad respect for her.

If we go by pure odds, I would agree men are more likely to be a part of the small percentage of the population who actually become successful simply because they are more likely to take risks and no one gets anywhere in this world without taking risks. But if a woman does cross that barrier and takes risks, she has just the same ability to succeed as a man.

I say it's more a case of there is less fear of failure/too many safety nets in play, for a guy succeed or die alone is quite often the case, women do not have this pressure.

Every time a woman says there aren't enough women CEOs, heads of state, etc., make sure to take note of her own profession. Is she herself in physics or other hard sciences, or w/e other "disadvantaged" profession? Is she personally willing to put in the hours to become a Doctor of Physics? No? Then it's the height of hypocrisy for her to complain.

Forcing gender "equality," dear lord..... at this point I want them to just go ahead and do it, make gender "equality" mandatory, since that is the only way these people will understand how wrong they are, is to actually put their nonsense in practice and watch the train wreck it creates. The quickest route to discrediting this feminist bullshit, I really believe, would be to completely go along with all of it and just watch what happens next. If it works then great society is better. When it doesn't then we will finally be rid of feminism. It's a win-win lol

I would agree with there aren't enough women with the drive to pursue those types of successes. I for one, have no idea why I would possibly want anything like that. If I don't want it I obviously won't have the discipline to achieve it because it seems pointless.

I think saying women lack discipline in general is false. I think most people are probably disciplined in general. But being disciplined in a particular pursuit requires that one desires the end result which generates the drive to achieve it.

I just got done reading /u/OlBastard say in another thread that it's feminism that makes women feel guilty for being housewives.

The problem with people like you, and I think many feminists fail to realize this too, is that it never occurs.to you that one reason women are lacking in high positions of authority is because of choice. It is not, as you say:

rather that women have a different set of challenges, expectations, and goals than men who make it to the top do. I am not in a position of authority. It is not because I am incapable, it is not because I lack discipline, it is because I know I cannot be there for.my family in the way I need to.be if I did choose to pursue a high power, time intensive career. I chose to pursue another route. Not because anyone forced me to, and not because I am incapable of anything else. I have had dozens of other women in similar positions as me reflect this exact same sentiment to me.

Feminists will completely chalk it up to discrimination. Misogynists chalk it up to female degeneracy. You're both wrong.
