Can anyone tell me who Lauren and The Rebel Media are? I honestly don't know and I'd like to be aware of whether or not they have an agenda. I.e. did she get any good/thoughtful answers and were they edited out or is that probably not what happened?

Either way, her presence is OK, imo. She's within her rights to ask questions and the footage that was shown was just regurgitated talking points from people who didn't seem entirely capable of offering an articulate version of what they believe (I'm talking here about the people she interviewed) or why.

I guess I just find this cringey and more of a distraction than anything. I mean, do I really care that a small group of people went on a slutwalk? No, not really. I just...don't care. I don't think these people have as much power as RP thinks they do. They're a boogie-(wo)man, just like RP (and similiar) is to them.

The MGTOW interview was just painful. Whenever I see a guy like that (which, again, only seems to be in Youtube vids so I feel like this isn't as widespread as the internet sometimes makes it seem) I just feel fucking bad for them. It's so obvious that he has been unsuccessful with women and is going MGTOW as a way to find some worth in himself that isn't tied to his (lack of) ability to get laid. It's just sad. He doesn't look too old, either. He just looks very out of shape and he radiates insecurity. I want to shake the hell out of him and tell him it's not too late, he doesn't have to resign himself to a life devoid of love and sex. MGTOW is tragic, and not for the reasons they think it is (i.e. not for us women, but for them, the MGTOWs themselves). Blah. So depressing.

So in conclusion, I just think something in human beings needs a boogeyman. Maybe especially for young, relatively privileged human beings (which if you're reading this is a group you probably belong to). And for these people, it's rape culture and PUAs and RPers and the like. Just like it's the dreaded SJW's and feminized 'society' for RP etc.

Well there's some obvious shit disturbing on the site, Levant made a career out of it. But it has a good variety that's why I like it. I was going through it today and there was a funny video from Gavin talking no fapping, levant convincingly arguing that a CBC comedian breached its ethics policy, southern doing this shit, and a pretty good one on the marijuana policies of the big three parties. It's an interesting mix of topics.

The Rebel was started by controversial Canadian journalist Ezra Levant, earlier this year I think. It's a great site, good contributors, but it's primarily Canadian politics and such. However, it has all kinds of stuff especially from people like Gavin Mcinnes who always has hilarious stuff, and talks a lot about the US. His latest video on his no wank policy is funny. They also interviewed Roosh while he was still in Canada.

In terms of an agenda it is definitely conservatism. Almost libertarianism, Lauren southern herself is/was running for the libertarian party, which is a fringe party in Canada. It is absolutely essential in Canada in terms of politics because we don't have any conservative media, really. It's pretty much overrun with liberals and as Roosh found out, it's basically brainwashed the entire country to hate anything that doesn't fit the liberal narrative (whether feminism related or otherwise). The CBC, the state run broadcaster, is terribly liberal, a topic I can get into on another day.

I agree this Slutwalk doesn't signal the arrival of the four horsewomen of the apocalypse, but this is an excellent example of Canadian culture right now. These things are in every city after it originated in Toronto. The 'rape culture' narrative is basically taken as fact in Canada. It's a dreadful place at the moment as compared with the other good countries (no don't 'white person problem' me, Canada kicks the shit out of 90% countries, I know).

But I think the MGTOWs need a swift kick in the arse and some hard talk from men to get their act together. I mean the two hours it took for him to make his costume would have been better spent at the gym.

I'm your typical middle-of-the-road fiscal conservative (Canadian version so, y'know) social liberal so I don't think I'm going to be swayed by any arguments about Canada needing more conservatism but others, as I said, can do their thing. Do you live out east? Ever been to Alberta or small-town/non-Vic or Van BC? Lots of pretty conservative folks out there. I like this country. All the reasons everyone else thinks we're boring are all the reasons I love it. Sometimes I think we have it so good we're just bored and have to come up with causes to get behind because of it.

As for the MGTOWs yeah, the costume almost made me legit cry. He put time and effort into that. I want to say that I hope he has some decent older men in his life to take him under their wing but the fact that he's out on the street like that tells me he might not. :(

Also we need to keep in mind that Edmontonians are buried under 20 metres of snow for 10 months a year so they do go a bit mad when they thaw out.

I am currently in the west of Canada, but have been in all regions except a couple. I greatly disagree with you that Canada 'doesn't need any more conservatism', but that's for another subreddit. If nothing else, there is no conservative media in Canada. It's all liberals cheering for government handouts and slut walks. Also freedom of speech in Canada is significantly weaker than other Western countries. As for boring, you'll have to count me as one of those who just thinks Canada is boring. Eastern Canada is particularly bad.

Lauren Southern's understanding of rape culture is about as solid as her understanding of global warming, though she insists on making an ass of herself in these videos and at these events. It's kind of funny because you immediately proceeded to make a rape joke at her expense that's supposed to be taken as a compliment which is a solid example of rape culture.

Quick note, not every country is the US. I, for one, am not American. But US does have a problem with racism. Even the black president you elected admits it.

Now on whether or not dark humor perpetuates racism, I believe it can. Humor can do a lot of things, it can bring attention to an issue or work as a mutual ground for racists. People use humor and comedy for a lot of things. For example, the "immigrants took our jerbs" segment on south park is not racist, because it doesn't perpetuate negative stereotypes about people based on their skin color. However, jokes that compare black people to monkeys is racist, and is often used to spread racist ideas and provide a common ground for racists. So I would say that humor is just a medium, and it's the message behind a joke that determines whether it is racist or not.

I'm not discussing climate change (isn't that what you liberals want us to call it now rather than global warming). I liked that video anyway, it was an entertaining watch. Nonetheless, I'm not going to a 20 year old to answer questions about the environment that scientists globally don't have a consensus on. So let's stick to the task at hand.

Care to give some anti-climate change scientific papers from a reputable source? Honestly curious.

  1. It's been explained to me as the normalization of rape. It includes slut-shaming (sluts can't be raped), victim blaming (she shouldn't have dressed like that) and objectification of women (portraying women as sexual objects reduces the amount of consideration extended towards victims and to-be victims) among many more.

  2. I think it varies from culture to culture, but as a cross-culture kid, it has been my personal observation that women are often objectified in mainstream media. And every girl I know has had a "don't get raped/dress slutty/walk alone at night" talk. This is all very good advice, but I definitely don't see the same amount of advice being poured into boys about not raping, proper consent, night time safety. This isn't to say that boys can't get raped or girls can't rape. This is victim-blaming without gender, where the only seeming way to prevent yourself from getting raped is by being more careful. There's also a glorification of the perpetrator. For example, a basketball team that lost very badly would sometimes be described as "being raped". It's not a glorious thing. You don't say " they got burglared" or "they got robbed". You might say " they got murdered", but that's because there's a glorification of violence in North America which includes sexual violence.

  3. The Vancouver video from Southern featured more of her views than this one, since there were more people willing to talk to her in her previous video, so I'm also going to mention some of the views she expressed in that one.

I think one of my biggest problems with her is the notion that "it's not a problem here because other countries have it worse". For example, it would be absurd to say income inequality is not a problem in America because other countries have it worse. Why does other people having problems take away from your own? Problems in the world aren't finite. Just because there's people in India living on half your wage doesn't mean you're not poor. It's the " at least you don't have cancer" argument. Oh, you're depressed, you broke your leg and have to walk around in crutches for the next few months? Well, at least you don't have cancer. That's such a pointless comment, because it just seeks to minimize your problem instead of offering solutions.

She seems to believe in rape culture, but only for those " non-western" countries. And her defense of it (from her last video) was that "rape is illegal. Rapists go to jail" when that's not really the central concept in rape culture at all. FYI, rape is also illegal in India (her idea of a country with a rape culture) and some rapists in India also go to jail.

Not a scientist, so I don't read any scientific journals. I'm not taking a side on this though. Take it up with JP of you'd like, he's more into that debate.

The name climate change was originally coined because scientists were aware of the fact that the global climate was changing due to human activities, but they weren't completely sure if it was going to get warmer or cooler. Today, climate change refers to many other ways that the environment has been altered due to human activity, including rising sea-levels and melting ice-caps. NASA presents the evidence more thoroughly on their website.

What is "rape culture"? Seriously, what is it.

Slutwalks are a strange kind of protest where you basically express your privilege, and then claim victimhood when people express their disapproval, with the most extreme expressions of disapproval being presented as the typical form of disapproval.

I think MGTOWs individually are nice people but I feel their existence is a sign of something very dark in our society. Humans are social creatures so hearing them talk about their beliefs sends a chill down my spine.

I don't know what rape culture is. I assumed it meant that rape is an accepted part of the culture of a given place. However, that's an impossibility in the West, yet I keep hearing the term, so it must mean something else.

From this video it seems to mean either catcalling (arguably justifiable catcalling of a topless girl in broad daylight), or it is most likely the usual feminist definition for things - 'whatever I say it means'.
