This study finds both absolute and relative happiness of women compared to men has declined. What gender specific reasons are there for this? Isolating for gender makes it harder because a lot of the general things we might intuitively attribute to a decline in happiness are not gender specific (less job security, longer hours, more debt).

TRP has a very simple answer to this conundrum but is there an alternative more persuasive explanation?
