I think a lot of men who go to TRP have similar stories to you: people-pleaser types who have a "I'm not gonna take it anymore" moment. I think to some degree thats a common part of male development, a lot of guys have some kind of "fuck the world" stage (often in adolescence but sometimes later).

So fuck it, be selfish for a while. If you're really as much of a pushover as you say your conception of what constitutes "selfish" is probably a bit skewed anyway.

Just make sure you're actually taking action towards your goals instead of agonising about this pill or that pill or that theory, reddit is an internet forum, don't take this bullshit too seriously.

Your problem is that you didn't do what you did out of the goodness of your heart, but because you believed in some perverse socio-karmic contract with the universe and thought that by trying to behave like a good person, good things would happen to you. Basically, you are very selfish person and don't deserve empathy for what happened to you - because had you really been a good person you would have done everything what you did without the expectation of a reward. /bp

Nobody gives me orgasms for being sweet and even tempered. :'(

If you're sweet, enough guys will. Don't even have to be even tempered.

Nah, works better to ask the ones you are attracted to to sex you up. Plenty of guys will want to fuck you, but that's not the same as getting you off.

Never give to get. Never assume people will do you a favor, no matter how many you did for them. Never help people unless they have helped you first, or you stand to gain some kind of clear and significant advantage (for example forming a rapport with an employer).

You don't have to be RP to do these things, it's just common sense. Women tend to deny this type of thinking because they are used to people going out of their way to be sensitive or helpful to them for no particular reason. For most guys however that's not how it works. I notice that most guys who identify as BP are the ones who have had that experience to some degree (i.e. claim to have had many sexual partners and successful relationships without using any kind of TRP-esque thinking).

I am a weak person who has been stepped on at his career

This is a victim mentality. Do you really think people have it out for you? Or maybe they just weren't aware of your needs?

It's really easy to view the world as good & evil. More often the truth is everyone is pursuing their self-interest and only dimly aware of what others want or need.

[–]midnightvulpine4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're painting this whole thing as black and white. You're either a soft touch doormat or a horrid, domineering sociopath.

Thinking those are your options is foolish. Helping people is fine. But you have to know when it is and is not best to do so. That's part of life. Finding the balance between being pro-US and looking out for #1.

Keep in mind, plenty of those sorts who take every advantage and care not for the damage they do to those around them fail as well. People fail, regardless of what path they take in life. The question is, what can you live with doing?

It's fine to focus on you and to do what you must to make yourself stable again. You just don't have to be an ass about it.

[–]Shotss2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Everyone fails. What matters is how you deal with failure.

This issue actually is black and white. You let your fears rule you or you don't. There's no halfway.

[–]midnightvulpine-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's one of TRPs issues. It's an ideology with fear at the core. Centered around a fear of women and their wiles.

all I can see are the way's I've tried to accommodate and help people.

Don't fall into the mindset trap of "I've been suffering so I can help all of you!". I love helping people. I'm very generous with my friends. But I don't wear that shit on my sleeve and I have my priorities. You know how on airplanes they always say "put your own oxygen mask on before helping others"? That's because your life needs to be secure before you can really contribute to other people's lives. Being an unnecessary martyr is selfish in its own way.

And don't hand out kindness to everyone you meet, most people don't deserve it. Be respectful and courteous but only go out of your way to really help the people that mean a lot to you.

I find it incredible that this is how people obtain success

First of all, you're blindly taking their word for it. A post saying "I did everything TRP told me to and I'm worse off!" isn't going to get upvoted. Second of all, having more confidence will help you in pretty much everything you want to do. You don't need all the misogynistic seasoning. Try just being selfish for a bit, there's nothing wrong with looking after yourself.

eesh. i'm sorry you've had such a rough time of things, OP; that sounds like a pretty crappy string of events. a lot of what i was going to say is well summed up in this comment, so i'm just responding to it instead of making a separate one of my own.

there is something universally useful about putting your needs equal to and even before needs of others (so long as it's not to the extreme, or to a harmful degree). it's not really an RP thing, and it's definitely possible to do this without being either cold or calculating. in fact, i would advise against adopting either of those traits; people can sense it, and it's a turn off. it makes people wary of you, and not in a good way.

i've had a similar experience in the past; unfortunately, there are those who would take advantage of the kindness of others given the opportunity. it is possible to care about yourself and still be a good and helpful person, though. you sound like a nice person, so i don't see why that wouldn't be feasible for you as well.

In other words make yourself a better person, don't let others walk over you and hold frame?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Read A Short History of Decay by Cioran.

[–]Shotss1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thoughts?

You got it mate.

If you want to make yourself stronger throw yourself at your fears, if someone stands in your way burn their homes down to the ground. tell women who won't fuck you to fuck off. Figure out what you want and go after it with 100% convinction in yourself. Laugh at failure in the face and find the quickest way to turn it into a win.

Nothing matters, go out and take whatever you want. Ugly truths bring great freedom. Enjoy it.

Embrace the horridness of reality and make a place for yourself in the world. This seems to be the distilled message of TRP, and I am finding it harder and harder to ignore.

For me this is basically the main, and often only, thing TRP has going for it. That they try to analyze the world as it is, rather than how they would like it to be.

Once the world is analyzed and you know how it works, it's up to you how to use that knowledge. It's like nuclear power - you can use it to solve all of mankind's energy problems. Or you can use it to wipe out most of mankind off of Earth. TRP is skewed towards the latter, but that doesn't mean you have to be as well.

Either way, there is no excuse for ignorance. That is the option even worse than nuclear holocaust.

Dude, you don't need to be a cold calculating manipulator, you just need to take responsibility for you situation. Your parents didn't make you weak, you did. Your friend didn't make you homeless, you did. Blaming other doesn't do anything but try to make your ego feel better. You need to get out there and work harder.

[–]chasingstatueszion was part of the matrix1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with this.

OP is still putting off doing anything about his situation by distracting himself with an irrelevant and nonexistent moral dilemma.

Conservative: "The system is unfair So exploit it to your advantage for as long a you can."

Progressive: "The system is unfair So lets make it (more?) fair."

Debate aside, I would highly recommend the "48 laws of Power" for you to read. You might find it helpful for your work and relationships. And understanding your mistakes.

You can get audiobook easily if you're stressed for time.
