First, happy thanksgiving to those residing in the states, and a delayed happy thanksgiving to those in Canada.

Our post describing Debate Week 1.0 is here

Science Posts Added

We added new flair for "Science" posts. The rules are explained below.

Guidelines for Debate Week 2.0 - 11/27 to 13/2

  1. All posts must be tagged with link flair. To tag your posts with flair, click the flair hyperlink below your post.
  2. Comments in Debate, Challenge My View (CMV), and Science threads should either ask a question or offer a thoughtful explanation. No snark, contentless humor, insults, or off-topic stuff.
  3. Be prepared to offer sources, and defend those sources. With scientific matters, you will need scientific sources. Google scholar is your friend.
  4. Be direct. Sarcasm is not effective debate. It just pisses off those who disagree. Direct comments are more effective at communicating what you really want to say.
  5. You have to take those who disagree with you seriously. That doesn't mean you have to believe in TRP or feminism or anything else, you just have to possess the capability to discuss the relevant topics in an intellectually honest manor. For instance: I take religion seriously. I don't believe in god and I am not religious, but I see that religion has an effect on the world and and I can acknowledge that religion is a relevant topic to discuss as a sociological phenomenon. If TRP, feminism, and gender issues are such a joke to you that you cannot discuss these topics like a reasonable human being, then you have no place commenting in a Debate, CMV, or Science thread.
  6. Science posts should link to academic papers/studies. Science posts must have accurate, neutral titles. Take hints from the title of the paper itself, or just use the title from the paper (in quotes, of course).
  7. Top level comments on CMV responses/comments should disagree with the OP, in some way.

Some have asked if we will award delta points, which are essentially points added to your flair when you change someones view. We will not be awarding delta points...yet. If this debate thing sticks, we might. Also, we will not be declaring winners or losers. That's for you to decide.
