Where you see tactics, others see people authentically living out their own lives. This is the sort of shit that blue pill makes fun if you all for; it's disturbing when you all try to boil down human interaction into these strategical plays, like a role playing game.

I've actually heard this before and it boils down to two things.

She wants to think that you think of her as the type of girl that's cool with you doing X when in reality she hopes you'll know better than to actually believe her and do what she actually wants. (In other words she wants you to play out the movie that's going on in her head even if she knows it's stupid).
She wants the argument and fight that's caused by hear saying things she doesn't really mean. The emotional rush she feels from getting angry, sad, happy, excited, etc feel good to her.

She wants you to fight her for leadership of the relationship but she hopes to lose because she wants you to be a leader.

Natalie Portman's character was clearly meant to be emotionally damaged and thus is not a good representation of what a healthy woman would do in a relationship.

if he was really RP he would have 'next' her and not taken any of the BS. Also her hand isnt a "reward" - thats pedestalizing the girl.

But from a PP perspective, it seems like Natalie said Ashton could be with other girls because she felt uncomfortable with the intimacy in the relationship she thought would only be FWB. When Ashton did that, she realized she did not like the idea of Ashton with other girls, therefore she did want an exclusive relationship even though she thought she didn't before. Basically this is why FWB situations dont work out very well. Feelings typically will develop, and since there is this "Agreement" that neither of them are interested in a relationship, neither of them admit their feelings and push the other person away because they don't want to get too close.

For FWB to work, not only do both parties need to understand that it is a non romantic, non exclusive relationship, it also needs to be something they truly want. A person who wants a LTR shouldn't put themselves into these situations because they want to "get some" but haven't had any luck with LTRs. The best way for FWB to work is if the person really does not want an LTR for the rest of their lives, or at least for an extended period of time. I feel like if LTR is something someone wants in life, they will eventually want it even though if they believe they do not in the present.

Finally, as for "you shouldn't listen to me" - Humans often say things they do not mean. A person needs to use their digression and not take everything literally. If someone is romantically interested in you, and tell you to see other people, do they really mean it? Probably, no, they do not. If you listen to it, the end result is that the person will feel hurt. This ended ok for them in this movie, but I am sure there are situations where it does not end well at all.

All in all we should try to be honest but sometimes our minds trick us into saying things we dont mean. I think the best way to handle those situations is to let things settle and let some time past and then revisit the subject and see if the opinion is still the same. In the moment we say something but moments later we might regret it or realize we dont really mean it. It's always good to realize this is common amongst all people and if you 'feel' something isn't right, give it some time and go back and speak to them to understand if thats how they really feel

BP isn't the "opposite" of RP, nothing is. No one would deliberately be your definition of "beta". I didn't see the movie, but if I was lead to believe a relationship was open and then my partner got pissed at me for sleeping with someone else, then dropped a line like "you shouldn't listen to me", I'd probably leave that relationship too, and I'm blue pill as it gets.

You guys say stuff like "common beta error" like you're the first ones to figure out nice guy syndrome. Man, we know.

When she told him to sleep around with other women, that was a shit test. She was hoping he would pass it, but he didn't, so she had to overtly tell him you shouldn't have listened to me.
