Hi RPW, long time lurker, first time poster.
I've (20) been dating my boyfriend (23) exclusively for almost 3 months now, been seeing him for almost a year. We started out as friends > became FWB > he fell in love with me and then I reciprocated a few months after getting over the weird cycle of on-off I had with my ex. He's an absolute dream in what I want in a man: loves me, very manly, provides for us and pays for us always. I do my part to cook for him, thank him for what he does, and we have a healthy sex life. He lives close to campus so since school started a week ago, I started to come over in between classes to hang out and make him lunch or things along those lines.
So, what's the problem?
I feel very insecure in our relationship and feel like I'm a burden for coming over so frequently and like I'm annoying. I know he loves me, but I feel like I'm suffocating him even though he says he likes having me come over and spending time with me. I think I feel insecure because I feel like I am an avid communicator and keep him informed about what is going on with me and when I am free, so I feel like I'm losing "power" by not being mysterious? I don't know if that makes sense because it just sounds so silly, but I want to feel confident and valuable in my relationship with him.
How have you contributed/attempted to mitigate the problem?
I'm trying to get into more hobbies, like join the sailing club, I work out super early in the morning because I used to fill in class breaks with the gym before I got tired of hauling all my stuff around. I also try to remind myself that he loves me and that this is all in my head, but I just can't shake not feeling desired.
Part of me feels worried that I am perhaps monopolizing some of the power in this relationship?
EX: initiating frequently, seeing if he is free, making plans, cooking and making his bed, doing dishes, then gently telling him what I did if he doesn't thank me fast enough (I know, I hate that too, I just love doing things for my loved ones, but feel unappreciated if I don't get recognition fast enough? Would love tips on how not to be so pushy about that)
I am overweight, but I have an hourglass shape and my fat is distributed well (relatively flat stomach with big hips), but I have felt extremely internally insecure about my weight since I could remember, but I'm working on eating better and working out.
TLDR; My self-esteem is just shot, and I love my boyfriend very much and do not want things to come in between us because of my feelings of inadequacy. Any advice on how to be more submissive and boost self-esteem would be wonderful.
