Honestly the hardest part is just being on a consistent schedule starting out. Pick a routine you kinda like and follow it daily.

I do full body Monday Wednesday Friday. Not the best workout schedule but definitely good when you’re short on time and starting out (as it builds a lot of key muscle groups that you can focus on later). it’s the same schedule I’ve been on for almost 2 years now.

Once you get used to how everything feels, you can start to adapt your workout for whatever goals you want. I started seeing results relatively quickly but I think my returns have been plateauing because 1. I’ve not really increased my food intake 2. I’m not lifting as much/often/frequently as I need to make gains using this plan.

I started focusing on strength (as my logic was the faster you get stronger, the more weight you can lift when switching to hypertrophy) which did work well and I did see gains. I’ve just started changing my workout to be more hypertrophy focused recently so I can’t say it’s done anything better yet.

I do recommend mass gainer instead of protein, and creatine if you can’t organize your own meal plans/protein intake. Will speed up gains.

Both. Every workout begins with essential compounds, like squat or deadlift where I focus on strength. I follow up with targeted excersises. Right now building up shoulders, chest and lats. I am tall and have naturally big arms but don't have naturally wide shoulders relative to my core, so focusing on developing a more definitive V-taper.

So many starters in TRP worry about how exactly to train, what to focus on, etc.

Mate, if you work out anything at all without getting injured, you are far ahead most people. Worry about all else when you start to get your shit togeher.

Both, my periodization follows a undulating or cyclical cycle rather than linear. I won’t do a strength based program for a couple months before flipping a switch and chasing hypertrophy. I’ll alternate my intensity (% of 1rm) and volume day to day rather than by phases. However I always keep the weight as heavy as possible within that RPE or rep range.

For example, this week I started Sunday with a hypertrophy based shoulder day. Tuesday was a strength based deadlift and back day. Yesterday was strength based bench/chest day (5x5) but not as intense as the heavy singles I did with deadlifts the day before. Today I hit legs with some good volume just pumping a ton of blood.

Next week the muscles and exercises will be done using different intensities and volume. I do this because as Arnold said, you have to shock the muscle. Add new stimulus.

It’s important to do both, how you go about achieving that will depend on your preferences.

i am experimenting with a preworkout that is not well studied on humans. i'll let you know if it works out. i take calcium lactate for the lactate, and vitamin d3 to absorb the calcium. i stay just under the maximum allowable daily value for calcium, which is a lot, but not dangerous according to the information i can find. i take it with caffeine. a combination of lactate and caffeine (LC) boosts hypertrophy in slow twitch muscle exercising according to a somewhat recent study (in lab mice). i also take an ursolic acid supplement. ursolic acid is currently being researched as well but supposedly boosts muscle growth while reducing obesity due to increased energy expenditure (also in mice).
