I know we all love 48 laws of power, but i am curious why are we not using Art of Seduction as the first choice of Robert Greene instead of 48 laws of power?

There were some interesting ideas in Art of Seduction, however, there was also lots of non-practical advice like: "Whisk your prospective plate away to your island retreat staffed by an army of manservants and then shower her with diamonds."

Many of the women that were "seduced" in his examples were actually prostitutes. Also, many of the "seducers" were extremely high status men.

Even worse, some of the examples were derived from works of fiction, a big no-no. There were also numerous inconsistencies.

I found his chapter on anti-seductive traits to be the most useful and thought-provoking.

Here's a list of anti-seductive types:

Brute - Is impatient; wants sex now; doesn't want to wait;

Suffocator - Pedestalizes a person they barely know because they are empty inside and want to fill a void;

Moralizer - Endlessly criticize and judge to try and bend you to their standards (and yet, one of his examples uses this strategy!)

Tightwad - Doesn't engage in selective generosity; book states that you don't want to appear to be a "desperate" beta bux type looking to buy love, yet frequently in his examples, people do things like spend large sums of money just to fuck a prostitute, or lavish their target with grandiose displays of wealth well outside the reach of 99% of the men on the planet.

Bumbler - Being nervous and self-conscious make the other person nervous and self-conscious. This advice is gold, IMO. I've seen it in dancing, where if make a mistake and say "Sorry," they get mad, whereas if I smugly say "Whoops," they laugh at my devil-may-care attitude and relax.

Windbag - Talks too much; doesn't listen;

Reactor - Hypersensitive and reacts to every perceived slight;

Vulgarian - a slob who says inappropriate things.

I realized that in my own experience, when I had behaved in those ways, it had proved anti-seductive.

The stuff on process seemed to make sense: choose the right target, approach indirectly, send mixed signals, create triangles, create a need, master the art of insinuation, create temptation . . . etc. But unfortunately, many of the examples provided were suspect. Appendix A on the Seductive Environment was also good.

Because TRP's main focus isn't about getting women, it's about being a better man, women are the side effect of that.

I read art of the seducer and wasn't that impressed with it.

think if you just follow the TRP advice (escalate, lead, have fun/do stuff, lift, etc) I think this is more than enough.

Also monsieurhire2 was right. Most of the women were prostitutes (whether it was money/alliance), and the one I remember clearly was a virgin (which = higher level of bonding). So some useful stuff in their. Easy to take on a persona to match your personality, but in the end RP truths are more relevant.

That was such a weird book to me, maybe because I read it as a teenager. I didn't get it, it looked like a bunch of stories with no real meaning (that I could understand) and shit that I'd never be able to pull off.

I have just finished 48 laws, bit of a slog, but i liked all the historical aspects. It has greatly helped me at work too, not so much in implementing the laws myself, but recognizing others doing it. I have got Seduction up next.

I don't know if Seduction will help as much 48 laws because power is power and men attitude to power hasn't changed much over 100's of years. But women's attitudes have drastically changed over the past 10 or 15 years, i have a feeling that some of the concepts might not apply so well in modern society, but hey i could be wrong, i will have to read the book to find out

I would hazard a guess and say that the laws of seduction is easier to understand when you understand the power dynamics by Greene's definition.

I've read 48 Laws and have AoS sitting there waiting. My impression is that the former is more applicable to business and political dynamics than sexual relationships, although there are some good nuggets in there. It's a great read although it is not systematic, and if you break it down and try to systematize it you find all sorts of inconsistencies and contradictions. If you can swallow it whole in a zen-like manner then more power to you, but trying to be "scientific" about the application of the 48 Laws leads you into the problems encountered by things like psychoanalysis or even Marxism.

Having said that, I am looking forward to AoS and hope that it is a bit more coherent, although I am pretty sure I will enjoy Greene's writing style.
