What is the meaning of nurturing?

Nurturing to me is adding an extra touch of lovingness and care to something or someone allowing a sense of positivity and growth.

For example, my FH is sick with a cold and is rarely ill. It would have been easy yesterday for me to succumb to annoyances and exhaustion after working a full day and then being in the middle of moving and not having him around to help. It would have been easy to tell him to stop being a "baby" and do XYZ and a multitude of other things that need to be addressed, but that was me in another life.

Instead, I called him after work and asked whether he'd like me to get him some soup because that's what he'd do for me as well. Then I went by my house and grabbed a few things, went by the store and got some teas and soup, came home and unloaded everything and proceeded to make him a green smoothie, tea, and soup and brought it to him. We proceeded to just relax together and had an enjoyable evening. He appreciated the extra attention and I know he will be back to the grind when he's feeling better.

He in turn nurtures me by all the sweet and thoughtful things he does and says to me. It's a positive cycle fueled by respect, consideration, and love. Nurturing is taking the time and energy out of a hectic day and doing little (or big) things that show you prioritize a person... being present, empathizing, and connecting.

Dictionary: to feed and protect: to nurture one's offspring. to support and encourage, as during the period of training or development; foster: to nurture promising musicians. to bring up; train; educate.

Someone, anyone, who nurtures you helps you, supports you, encourages you to be better, to grow in a positive fashion, to be stronger. Nurturing your children means feeding and exercising their bodies, obviously, but it also means encouraging positive growth for them socially (playdates/friends), intellectually (read to them/buy them books), talent-wise (get them musical instrument lessons), etc.

To be nurtured by a man might look like him being supportive of your interests, giving you a space to develop of your own, being the breadwinner so that you can make the house into a home and raise children. Or maybe it just means he encourages you in your hobbies and activities, reads your unfinished novel, or whatever.

It’s the embodiment of a woman’s role as a caregiver, to children, to her man, or family, elderly or otherwise. It is joyfully and contentedly cooking for, caring for, serving the people we love. It is bringing a meal over to a grieving friend or neighbor. It is being a great listener. It is welcoming a husband home with a warm hug and kiss. It is putting others before yourself. Helping people see their own strengths and helping them become the best version of themselves. Each person should leave a conversation with you feeling better about themselves, not worse. It is a gentle way of correction, especially for children, that is empowering, and never critical and tearing someone down. It is never selfish or rude, never unkind or impatient. It is the loving touch of a gardener, or the soothing voice to quiet an upset child or the temper of a man.
