I've been maintaining frame with a rubber band.

Let me explain. One of my most beta traits was whining. I would quickly and annoyingly get verbal and whiny. A straight line from my mom's BPD behavior to me.

A few weeks ago after getting mad at band practice I decided I wanted to end losing frame like this. So I got a rubber band and put it on my wrist. Every time I started to get frustrated and complain, I'd snap the rubber band to make me mindful of what I was doing.

The results have been staggering. My out loud complaining is down to once every 10 days and I stop myself almost instantly when I do it. I used to yell at my printer when it broke or rage when I was alone. Today, I was prompted to do this post because I was extremely frustrated with a work issue involving the IRS and I lost it for one second. That's a far cry from just a month ago. My life is better and more enjoyable and I maintain frame a lot more--stoicism is way up and whining is way down.

What's better is that you can use this mindfulness technique on any behavior you want to reduce. Just snap the rubber band whenever you engage in the behavior you want to stop.
