Wow, this post is fucking awesome dude! You translate TRP ideas into emotional terms and make some amazing points.

The "conquering emotion" is a very good way to articulate that hard-to-verbalize feeling. Nietzsche called it the "Will to Power," Jung and Freud called it "Libido".... I actually like your articulation better than all of theirs. "Conquering emotion" is very accurate and specific and true.

I agree that the main difference between self-actualized alphas and street-bum alphas is their ability to focus this conquering emotion. It's funny, even some betas possess the ability! If you watch any interviews with Quentin Tarantino, you'll see that his communication style is very beta — he immediately invests a lot of energy into each interaction, always talks very emotionally, always tries to be "right", etc — yet he still has the ability to focus this conquering energy into creating movies. And it fucking works, his movies are awesome and they make money.

I'd say that Alpha/Beta is the key dichotomy when it comes to the sexual marketplace, but focused/unfocused is the key dichotomy when it comes to male self-actualization.

I doubt "the alpha males that run the world" as you call them actually give a shit about the rest of us. Everything you attribute to them is more likely a result of emergent behavior than any kind of intelligent design.

The strong will rise either way

Assholes finish first. I used to be a team player at my job, never threw anyone under the bus, I'm not a rat, etc. Then my boss made a mistake, pinned it on me, and I didn't get a raise as a result. I let him know periodically I haven't forgotten. Just waiting for my opportunity to take him down. I want his fucking job. I'm more qualified anyway. House of Cards, and this sub reddit, has given me the drive to push myself and not let anyone stand in my way. Frank Underwood will change your life if you watch that show.

Fair enough. I feel like I'm on the right track though, in so many phases of my life thanks to this sub reddit

Why do you keep telling him you're coming for him? That's counterproductive to your goal.

[–]boinko03 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nope, i don't say anything like that at all. I just let him know, subtly, that i didnt forget getting throw under the bus. Periodically

[–]Asoka11111 8 points8 points8 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That shouldn't be a problem, but it still can only negatively effect your success. Think about it, there are only two outcomes:

  1. He does not register what you are saying, and you gain nothing.
  2. He does register what you are saying and is wary of you. Meaning he will take measures to defend himself or launch a preemptive strike.

[–]boinko03 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But i enjoy watching him squirm! Seriously though you're right. There's no long term good out of just being passive aggressive, if anything he can make the first move. I should re think that

I agree with you, but for a different reason.

Here is the truth. Everyone is an asshole per se. Everyone is looking out for themselves. Maybe only a handful of people that have ever lived were truly altruistic.

The key, is to not appear as an asshole to other people. Frank Underwood for example was all smoke and mirrors. His greatest rival became his closest friend (or so the president thought), and when he took his job he did so with a smile on his face while consoling the other man about the loss. He was a huge asshole, but he didn't appear that way to other people.

As said, everyone is an asshole. But you will find those who are both intelligent and good at making themselves appear altruistic are the ones who get ahead. "Frank, yeah everyone loves frank, he's such a nice guy and donates to charity!" Go out of your way to do nice things for other people and make allies and garnish support. Because what you are really doing is building a network of power for yourself. If you're going to actively screw people, you'll need to be as good as Underwood at covering your tracks because otherwise nobody is going to like you and your social power level will be far below par.

[–]boinko03 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh i agree, you can't steamroll everyone and make friends. But you do need to play nice and make some fake friends in high places

48 Laws of Power applies here.

[–]soccerplusaviation 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't say assholes finish first. It's the guy who can channel his conquering emotions that finish first.

OP. This article is too good. I am definitely going to spend the next hour breaking down this article and I'll come back with deeper insights. This is some real good shit.

EDIT 1: Your article is timely from my perspective. Two days ago I was trying to understand the evolutionary advantage behind anxiety and depression and you took what I learned and tied it into being a man.

[–]ankit0912 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A well written article is a treat for men. A quote that fight club has taught me "We've been raised on television to believe that we will be rockstars, millionares one day. But we won't ... and we're slowly learning this fact and we're very very pissed off". Well written article.

Excellent fucking post.

That drive is very hormonal. People think women are the only ones that act based on their hormones. Lifting and eating well leads to a testosterone level that betas and women will never experience. Higher test just makes it easier to be alpha.

Protecting one's manhood isn't just about frame, its about the body as well.

[–]sharp7 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree with most of this post. Men definitely have a conquering emotion, and school is about being submissive, thus men suck at school.

However, saying that a woman who is a CEO of a business doesn't have this seems foolish. Every group has variance, there are going to be the rare masculine women in a group, but you are right in that the vast majority do not have this conquering emotion.

However, in today's world. The conquering emotion is mostly a negative trait. It takes years, decades, of slaving away to become the best at anything. Submissiveness is usually useful, thus many men have developed ways to turn it off. Be submissive to teachers, or coaches, or bosses. There is no "channeling" it there is only turning it on and off. Turn it off when you have to learn from an elder, turn it on when you have to destroy someone in a competition. Turn it off when you are studying, turn it on when you're taking the test.

I would say although this emotion drives you into taking risks and reaching for more, to the average person its a terrible emotion that instead forces you to become obsessed with any competition you can find, such as video games.

[–]soccerplusaviation 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

5. a course into which something may be directed: He hoped to direct the conversation to a new channel.

OP used channeling correctly. Turning it on when it's to your advantage and turning it off when it's not is still channelling because your directing your drive strategically. This ties in with the 48 laws of power. Conquer when you can act submissive when you cannot.

I feel like I know now what I'm still lacking in development to fully embrace TRP.

The Emotion to conquer.

The part on "Woman needs a set of rules and guidelines to perform" Hit me hard as I feel lost at times, only to have people pointing out that the solution is already at Hand or within reach yet oblivious to me.

You should post more. You've described something I've been feeling but haven't been able to conceptualise or put into words. Thank you, I have a feeling you've uncovered something very important which up til now has not been addressed here.
