It's not limited to that sub, or reddit in general. Lack of disclosure is the status quo for moderating online discussion boards.

I've been a moderator/admin for some high traffic sites (not reddit).

Most of these discussion boards, moderators really don't have that much reason to exercise any kind of power over the general user base.

So you have these basement dwellers who's primary fulfillment in life is being a moderator on some board. The one piece of excitement they get, the highlight of their week, is to remove a controversial post that you make on their board.

That's it for them. They matter. Their 'job' has reason. They're doing something!

Additionally, there isn't much in the way of checks and balances that goes on for non-professional boards.

There is a social hierarchy. A mod does whatever they want with posts so long as plausible deniability exists.

The other mods may or may not even know the post was moderated. Most of the time, even if their peers know the mod was being a nazi, they stay quiet in order to not upset the herd.

The only time it is really brought up is when someone is going so overboard, that it threatens to alienate a large portion of the userbase.

As far as fairness goes, yes posts like yours are fine, but the neckbeard or SJW that comes across it feels that burning desire to feel like they're important and can't help but exercise their 'power' whenever the smallest shred of justifiability exists.

Of course they did, why would they give up even an ounce of power by letting you question them? They're the most dangerous kind of idiot - the kind that's convinced they are absolutely right.
