I mean the real issue is the breakdown of social roles in modern western society and destruction of ritualized behavior like courtship.

There is a whole swath of fairly average individuals that are just not socialized to learn how to attract women. Most of the programming coming from women if followed will result in you being in the friend zone. A lot of these performatively woke 'nice' guys are just well-socialized, but have inherent sublimated conflict due to fighting against their nature.

Meanwhile poorly socialized chads with high test have masculine attractive features and aggressively pursue.

That is why the pick up artist scene got so big. Low testosterone men trying to throw off that feminizing programming and actually pick up women.

From the perspective of women, pushing out propaganda to low value males is adaptive, it psychologically castrates them, they self-pre-select as not breeding material.

Its also why they have such a negative reaction to learning a guy is into the pick up artist scene / hearing about redpill philosophy. Its a visceral sense of wrongness that these 'beta' men are 'tricking' them.

The 'friend zone' around 2007-2013 was a pretty real thing and a new cultural phenomenon but now so much pick up artist / self improvement / mgtow / red pill material exists online if you still bitch about it you actually don't need to breed probably. We've moved past that phase in our sexual-dynamic development as a society. Unless you're a fumbling teenager or something.

Women hate the fact that theyre attracted to men who treat them like shit and are unattracted to men who treat them well.

So they make up nonsense about how "nice guys arent actually nice" because that would negate the evidence that suggests they are turned off by niceness.

"Why do I friendzone every guy whose nice to me? Well, uhmm, ermm, uhh... Oh, I know. Those guys werent actually nice!"

The truth about the friendzone is that the connection to "nice guys" is flawed.

The friendzone exists because women enjoy attention and string guys along.
Pretending they are kinda into them, but every time they advance, the girl pulls back.
Keeping the guy at the same distance, making him orbit her.

A nice guy is someone who tries to get laid by virtue of doing nice things towards a girl.
He will definately be put in the friendzone, but he is not defining the friendzone.

Anyone can get into the friendzone.
Just meet a girl, have her not introduce her boyfriend, have her pretend to be intrested in you, but every time you make a move, she pulls back.

The defining trait of the friendzone is women keeping men in the earliest phase of dating, for as long as possible.
While she could just shut him down, that would remove him from the friendzone and the attention she gets from him.
