Why didn't you expound on alcohol? Because it's legal? I'm a successful, happy, authoritative man and I've smoked marijuana since I was 14. If you can remain on point, moderate consumption, and continue completing your goals, who's to say you can't toke up? And FYI - marijuana is used to TREAT cataracts.

And what about if you vape it or cook it with food? Smoke is what does the harm not neccessarily what's in the weed. I'm sure overall it could have it's negative effects but I'll live a little and toke up
[–]alreadyredschool -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Weed is bad for your mental health, especially bad for feelings of happiness and motivation.
[–]DANICUNT 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm not an expert but my brother is bipolar and his doctor allows him to smoke weed to balance out the effects of his medication. My cousin has a green card to treat anxiety. :/ It has positive effects on mental health in these cases.

Then start taking three pills for your heart from now on. I know some people with heart problems and these pills help them.

Really? Some don't smoke weed shit on the internet? And on TRP of all places? I don't even chong and I want you to fuck off.

The drug itself (THC)
FTFY. By the way, get the fuck out of here with your big brother attitude and shaming post. Men live and die by their own mistakes and decisions; that's TRP for you.

I respect the right of people to make this decision ( "It's your life and your choice of course"). It's certainly not my intention to shame people, I have too many of my own issues to have time for that, but I do see an inconsistency in going on about being the best you can be and taking de-motivational drugs.
[–]Endorsed ContributorScholarInRed 19 points20 points21 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
But nothing. You can see whatever inconsistencies you want; it doesn't stop your shaming from being estrogenic nor your 'advice' from being officious. This post doesn't even seek to start discussion, it's just you trying to shame others.

Human beings are more chemically complicated than anyone in this thread or in the world can currently understand. How we view the world is imperative to our success in it. If weed can change someone's perspective, altering their brain chemistry through experiencing different states of consciousness, who are we to say no if it helps someone be successful?
If you're saying that anyone that can change their mind state with the drug, can do it without it, then you're just flat out wrong. Weed is one of the greatest things that I've ever implemented into my life, along side meditation and TRP. Honestly man, what's more red pill than carving your own way through the world using whatever tools you see fit. Some guys wake up and make bacon every morning, others jerk off, others have sex, some might even slap themselves and pinch their nipples while screaming into the mirror, who cares. All that matters is what they get out of it. Pepole will always use things for good AND bad, weed is no exception.

My position exactly. Just to clarify; I have smoked more than a little weed in my time. I can attribute a number of creative projects, some of the most fulfilling mental expenditures of my life, to being in just the right frame of mind, with my environment and circumstances just so, and then getting baked as fuck. I actually have a post about drugs in draft form, meant for this sub when I finish it.
I didn't mention any of that because it's not relevant to my point - which is that this post is shaming and worthless.
[–]Entrefut 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Definitely, can't wait to read it.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Clearly you haven't seen highly stressed professionals vaping on weekends to de stress
[–]huge_fuckin_douche 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Man are you actually trolling? You intertwine smoking weed and tobacco so much it's retarded. TNC? Moron.
Smoking weed is something most people do just to experience it. Sometimes those vices take a grip of people in a weak position in their lives. Sure it's "beta" to fall victim to a fucking drug, but don't act like it's goddamn heroin and it's going to rot your heart/teeth whatever the fuck else you're making up. (inb4 pothead, I haven't smoked for over a year)
P.S. I would bet that 90% of any successful person has smoked weed or cigarettes at some point.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We're all grown men, it's down to us to make decisions for our lives, my uncle smokes with kidney failure, he can't get a transplant because of this, do I bother trying to change the mind of a 60 year old man?
No I smoke with him and we talk about life.
On TRP we say you shouldn't let drugs control you, but at the end of the day it's your life, you don't even have to lift if you come here.(But seriously go lift)
[–]scarygrandma 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about. Go be a faggot somewhere else.
[–]Isaiah4verse1 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Why didn't you just hotlink Reefer Madness?
[–]william_law 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I disagree. Being a pothead stoner low life piece of shit is beta, but I think it's very comparable to alcohol otherwise. You do it on occasion to enjoy yourself, as long as you have your shit together and aren't doing it to escape, and you're fine. The health problems aren't going to be problematic in the least to an occasional weed smoker. It's like having a few beers on the weekend.
[–]chocolate_thundr 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree wig this post but not entirely. Every person is different and I think if weed is "de-motivational" for you then you probably shouldn't be smoking it. If the smoke is harming your body, you probably shouldn't be smoking it. However, if you use weed for it's many benefits(creativity, relaxation, better sex, increase appetite, uplifting your mood, stress relief, etc) smoke the shit out if it! I've been a weed smoker for about 5 years now. I don't see any problems with it as long as it doesn't deter me from accomplishing my goals. That being said weed does cause minor memory problems and anxiety for some people. Moderation, like with anything else is key.
[–]WAFC 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Did you just list a bunch of the effects of smoking tobacco and pretend that the act of smoking is the catalyst? GTFO
[–]sushisection 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
smoking marijuana in particular is seriously beta behaviour
Tell that to Snoop Dogg and Nick Diaz
[–]WAFC 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
And Kevin Durant and Michael Phelps.
[–]sushisection 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh yeah bro. Michael Phelps is such a pussy for smoking weeeeeed. So unmotivated. /s
Look, if weed is negatively affecting your life then you're a bitch! You should stay away from cheeseburgers too cuz those will really fuck your life up. There's something called self-discipline, practice it.

You can do whatever you like, just dont be a retard and overdo it!
[–]WhiskeyGrin 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I say this with respect to the OP, if we apply your reasoning to alcohol consumption surely we must reach the same conclusion no?
[–]nativeofspace 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'll do whatever I want with my body. Drugs can unlock an understanding of your life and the world around you that you could never have discovered on your own. I don't want to spend my whole life worrying about what's going to kill me when I could spend my whole life living right and just end up getting cancer regardless of how I lived.
[–]Willzi 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't really smoke it myself but I do smoke cigarettes, cigars and drink which according to modern society makes you the devil. I'd say it was more beta not being able to make your own choices and buying into authoritarian bullshit.
[–]colucci 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The problem with OP is that he does not make the difference between a person who smokes weed every day versus someone who smokes once per month versus one who smokes twice per year.
I smoke on my own to celebrate the end of each semester. So, three times per year. I seriously doubt I run a significantly increased risk of heart disease, lung cancer (and whatever else you listed) than if I had not smoked at all.
Eating a big mac per day is bad. But if you eat a big mac every other month, it's really not that bad at all. This is why you need to focus on the long term, on the ensemble, rather than the short run.

THC itself is not known to create cancerous tumors in your body. However, the plant itself builds cancerous elements in order to defend herself. If you vaporize you enjoy pot safe. If you smoke, you don't.

Weed is fucking awful for a small number of people and significantly less harmful than alcohol for most. There's few things I enjoy more in life than going to a park with a few close friends to spar and smoke weed in the sun. Feel free to go to Brazil and tell any of the world-class martial artists there who spend 10 hours a day on the beach sparring and smoking weed that they're not manly enough, I'm not sure it'll end too well.

The vast majority of people who use recreational drugs do so in moderation and responsibly. Despite the propaganda of The War on Drugs (TM), most people do not run the risk of becoming addicts and are able to easily control occasional recreational usage.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
never once in our modern medical history has anyone been diagnosed with any disease from inhaling cannabis. get your facts straight before you spew this self righteous crap. it's so painfully obvious you have never smoked weed and are most likely close minded to all substances.
[–]lugubriusTRP -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
It's literally impossible to get addicted to weed. Do it socially like you would with alcohol and your fine. Only weak people get "Addicted".
[–]friendlysociopathic 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
How can you say addiction is "literally impossible" and then put conditions on what you need to do to prevent addiction happening?
[–]lugubriusTRP -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
There were quotation marks around the second use of the word addicted for a reason...
[–]friendlysociopathic 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So in other words, it's literally impossible to get addicted because you don't think addicts are actually addicted? Where did you get your pharmacology degree if you've decided you're better informed than modern addiction researchers?
[–]lugubriusTRP -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But they're not actually dependant on the drug though are they? I know alot of people who proclaimed they couldn't go a day without smoking weed then one day just stopped.
I've never heard of people killing to buy a gram of weed to get their fix.
It's certainly not as physically addictive as, say, Heroin, but there are physical symptoms and anyone who says otherwise hasn't been through the withdrawal; when I was younger and forced myself out of my pothead phase I went through about a week of intense flashes of rage combined with intense insomnia and bouts of nasty depression. It's certainly not anywhere near as bad as the 'harder' drugs but the true issue with weed is the psychological dependence; it creates a loop of behavior that is difficult to break out of without a significant lifestyle change.
I've seen people get mugged and beaten for moderate quantities of weed more than a few times dude.
