I have noticed that there are two ways to improve self esteem. One is intrinsic and one is extrinsic. The most common one people do is extrinsic, where they work hard, turn their life around, succeed, gain respect from the peers and this boosts their self esteem.

However the problem with this is again, its conditional. You have to constantly be on the grind to keep up the self esteem level. The intrinsic is much harder to achieve, and requires us to confront and resolve our attachment tuama. This is where we are at peace with ourselves exactly the way we are because we understand why we are the way we are. In includes thinking thoughts such as

"Addicted to video games? Its okay, its because I am escaping some pain in my life. I still love myself."

"Working in a low paying job? Its okay, I didn't have the leg up in life/I am not as bright as others, but I still love myself."

"Depressed, and cant get up in the morning? I have a lot of truama to process, and it takes time, but its okay. I still love myself."

"I just got a promotion and a raise? Well I got lucky, and I know one day things will go the other way. But regardless of this I still love myself."

When we have a healthy amount of intrinsic S-E and we are at peace with ourselves, we will finally be able to operate at our full potential and as a side effect it will usually unleash a huge amount of extrinsic self-esteem to boot.

dropping off drastically at age 90

This is kinda odd. Is it perhaps because we are taught that human life span is 100 years, and at 90 we realise how close we are to the end. Kinda makes me sad to imagine someone living a full life and losing their S-E in the ripe old age.
