A bit of a conspiracy theory.

I believe these scams are proof that privacy is a myth, at least the vast majority of people do not have true privacy.

These are such obvious scams that you would think only a tiny fraction of adults would be dumb enough to fall for them, which means for scammers to make money they would have to play the numbers game. They would have to contact people randomly until they find the gullible ones. However, that's not the case in reality. Neither I nor my friends have ever been contacted by these scammers. The only times you hear about such scams on the internet are from people who have been successfully scammed. This proves that scammers know exactly who are likely to fall for their scams and who aren't. I'll let you decide for yourselves where they might have gotten their data from.

This is the reason why I have access to all our financial details. The Mrs gets her budgeted amount every month for taking care of the house all cash. If there's any banking or paperwork related task, I do it. She knows what's going on but will not be executing any transactions. This is our arrangement pre marriage and this has helped simplify life a whole lot.

I dated a girl who had filed for bankruptcy. That should've been a huge red flag to me, but I didn't get it, I was young. Long story short, after moving in together, we pretty much split things 50/50 as far as rent and bills, at least at first. But by the end, I was paying for most of that while she went around spending money on stupid shit.

The one that sticks out was the time she threw a baby shower for her cousin, where she rented some event center for like $1000 and invited dozens of people. Because, you know, just keeping it to close family and friends and inviting them over to our house for free while I fucked off somewhere else for a few hours was not an option in her mind.

Eventually, I figured if I was gonna pay all the bills, I might as well just live alone.
