[Mod] Announcement: Endorsed Contributors

Reddit View
April 5, 2013

Hello everybody! Just your friendly neighborhood mod here to talk to you about a new addition we're adding to TheRedPill.

In our ever-continuing effort to provide the highest quality content with the best signal-to-noise ratio, the moderators here will be keeping a lookout for especially unplugged insightful contributors.

Users that show repeated dedication and a high-working knowledge of red pill theory will be given a tag next to their name "Endorsed Contributor."

We would like this to help increase our signal to noise ratio and ensure that amongst the chatter, our message is able to still be heard.

We will be awarding the flair as we go, there are a number of users I already plan on giving this to in the next day or so. Please do not ask for the flair, the moderators will be deciding who gets one.

As the community grows, everything will change. I saw this happen with seddit back when it only had 5,000 members, and it's garbage now. This shit is going to happen to this sub eventually. It's going to be tough to maintain quality on a reddit platform. I've seen it happen time and time again. When that happens here I'm out of here.. Although I like to keep connections with people who I think are truly red pill. I can already see some my posts getting downvoted. Lame.

A community will only stay as strong as the integrity of the moderators. What you saw happen on seddit is not because it got too popular, it's because even today the moderators have no interest in keeping on topic. They are afraid, frozen, immobilized by the fear that their sub should appear misogynistic. The most hardcore of them have ended here.

We do not entertain the same fears. As the lead moderator here, I can attest I have no interest in bending to the whims of others, and their desires to temper our discourse. I've heard it time and time again that things are too this or too that. And that we should focus on our tone, be more politically correct, temper our message to be less offensive.

To that I say fuck you.

As it should be, Captain.

i'm glad that you wrote this. inmalafide went down the shitter purely because people thought private websites were a democracy and they could just say any old bullshit opinion.

this is not a democracy, this is private real estate where men are invited to stay and benefit from so long as they contribute back as well as following the rules.

strong moderators mean a strong group, weak moderators lead to mob rule and base denominator discussions and memes.

Qlue's post is from someone who has probably been burned in other subs. (and its true to say for a lot of subreddits, the bigger numbers and signal to noise ratio does cause a decline) but there are well moderated subs (askhistorians, askscience etc) that lead to sensible discussion

i'm confident in the team that they'll continue to do well and rule with enough strictness and fairness that this group doesnt go down the trodden route others have done before (largely by giving into the community's every whim)

I do enjoy the wastelands of deleted meme comments on askscience.

This is why you get my replies, my interest, and my arrows.

I'm seeing blue bill stuff from random outsiders rise to the top while our best contributors sink to the bottom because of our white knight influx. This initiative by redpill school should help correct that issue

I've been considering experimenting with getting rid of the downvote. Seems to me it does more harm than good.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children) | Copy

In my opinion, the downvote here allows us to be "raided" by other subs such as SRS and what have you. They roll in, lay down heavy supression downvotes and leave.

Doesnt make much sense, seeing as the majority of user I suspect only upvote exceptionally good content, and rarely downvote anything.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy

Agreed. I rarely downvote, and when I do it usually accompanied with a solid explanation as to why. Our detractors, however, do not give this kind of respect.

The whole function behind the downvote arrow is to allow the community to moderate by burying comments that are irrelevant or inflammatory.

A good, dedicated mod team renders the downvote arrows unnecessary. And considering how seldomly I see inflammatory and off-topic comments here, it must mean the mods are working overtime to haul out the trash.

I'm not seeing that, and I read virtually everything on this sub.

The post about raising a daughter and the post about beta comments. Downvotes all over the place

That's because the moderators are super fast.

This is a really good idea.

I think I have a decent idea who will be getting them. At the moment I just add the best contributors to my friends list so it stands out easier.

That's what I've been doing for a while now. Works out pretty well, but glad to see this too.

Same here.

Also, check out Reddit Enhancement Suite if you don't already have it. Customs tags with custom colours. Very easy to keep track of your favourite contributors.

Your intolerance for trolls and large balls in the face of criticism is what's needed to amass serious influence. Keep it up.
