Chapter 7 isn't as bad as it seems. It's the bs social stigma that seems to be more humiliating than anything.

It'll be on your record for 10 years. The world is flush with credit. Banks will still send you credit card applications. You'll learn great discipline using a cash accounting system.

Your mother is not a good person. She is using herself as a living hostage, relying on your manly virtue and sense of responsibility. What she is doing is nothing short of abuse and needs to be recognized as such. Everything she is doing is strictly for her benefit at your expense. Everything. Sell the house. Declare bankruptcy if you must. Strip your life down to the bare essentials and start fresh. Your mother is a grown woman and needs to start acting like one. Her extravagant spending is not your problem and she has no right to make it your problem. Get this toxic person out of your life, pronto!

Look up Dave Ramsey. You will get out of debt and solve the boundary problems with your mother. It works.

Your mother's mistakes are not your problem. You're actually enabling her, which is hurtful to her (and you) and not helpful.

I have zero sympathy for people who spend all their money on luxuries when they CLAIM they can't afford to survive, she spent HOW MUCH on a truck?? Why couldn't she have used that money to sort out her living situation?... She COULD spend $300 a month if she sold that flipping truck. The fact she thinks it's okay to let her son struggle and just pay for nonsense instead of helping you out when you need it... it really is sad, and I know you love your mother naturally. But she's started using you. Big time.

I went through a similar thing and after the initial shock of telling my mum "No, you're not using me for money while you go and spend your money on stupid shit" we ended up having a better relationship because there wasn't an underlying resentment anymore. Warn her, tell her this is the end of her being able to do what she's doing and she needs to sort her life out as you have your own to live. Tell her that you intend on moving, and this is you being kind by giving her time to sort her shit out. If she doesn't, then as shit as that is. You've done everything you can and have gone above and beyond what many son's would do for their mother. She's a grown woman and needs to sort her life out and stop holding you back. She's been selfish and relying on you for way too long, and it's time to let her know how you feel.

She's not thinking of you, in fact reading this made me angry. She wasn't upset about you selling your car for YOUR sake, she was just upset that the car she uses when it's icy, she won't be able too anymore. You are a disabled veteran, you deserve so much more than this.

I'd also like to thank you for your service, as I said you deserve so much more out of life than what you are going through now. I really am sorry you're going through this, but you know what you have to do. Even though I understand how hard it will be. I truly wish you the best of luck mate.

Sell your car and house. Use the money from the sale of the house to pay down your debt. Get an apartment. Don't invite your mother to move in with you. She is a mooch.

Also, buy an old Camry for 3 or 4 grand. You got yourself in this mess with debt, the borrowing needs to stop today.

I'd say your mom needs to leave the nest and live on her own again. Sure it's fine to take her in for emergency but she isn't helping you. It's your perfect right to have your jeep repo'd. Never pay for something you can't afford. And if you say you'll be fine with a smaller car, FFS just do that. If you need a car at all that is.

IDK anything about US laws and don't know what that ch 7 means. But is bankrupcy the only way out? IDK if you're working or not but perhaps you could talk about a payment program with your dept collectors?

Also run through your monthly expenditures and cut everything non vital: cable connection, landline phones, redundant insurances, subscriptions. When doing groceries: buy the cheapest articles possible. With food: no, don't compromise on quality but take the cheapest product possible. And if food is preservable and on sale: buy in a stash. Furthermore: clean out your house. Get rid of everything non useful. Throw them on E-bay: 1 cent is better than nothing. A clear and clean house is providing a clear mind. Once or twice a year I go through my place and get rid of stuff I don't need. You know/ junk that "might be useful one day." I keep it in my hand and ask "is it useful NOW?" If not, I get rid of it.
