You're right; i don't understand investing at all. "Understanding investing" takes years and years of hard work, focus, and education that i don't have the time or the aptitude for.

You don't understand investing either.

Yes, you can get rich in a few years with the right stock. But which stock is the right one? You'll be spending months doing exhaustive research to learn the ins and outs of a particular sector, so you can even recognize what an undervalued company looks like. And then what, invest your savings of a few 10k, and get an above-average market return of 10-20% or so? That's a $1000 profit for months of effort.

Instead, invest into higher education. With the right credentials you can convince others to let you invest THEIR money. The thing about that is, regardless of whether the resultant investment goes up or down, you still get paid. And paid handsomely too.

I recommend looking into a series of videos made by (admittedly discraced) hedge fund manager Martin Shkreli. In them he runs through different aspects of the markets and how to invest. They're lengthy, but very insightful.

Oh and there are many great people you can learn from, Nassim Taleb, Warren Buffett, Steve Nison, Charles T Munger and his Poor Charlie's Almanack, there are many reads you should get acquainted with, techniques of analyzing, graphs, Japanese candles and fundamentals, not to mention everyday facts, relevant facts as we call them, they can all move stocks one way or the other, as you said it yourself, it takes years to master, and you need to focus all your time on it, thats why I quit what I was doing, I wasn't making much money and it was diverting me from what was making me money which is stocks, I've picked some winners on emerging markets, their positive volatility is incredible really, and I know when to sell because I'm always reading news and gossip, financial statements, I follow the global market not one in particular, since its all connected, in market economies every price influences as is influenced by other prices, currencies are commodities as well, and have their set price, for instance, if a company has its debt in a foreign currency, and that currency fluctuates, you can infer the price of the stock in advance, Nikkei opens and closes earlier everyday, so you can know by advance which way the Western markets are likely to move even before they have opened.

People downvoting me trying to teach people how to invest the way I do is hilarious to me, it shows how even here human envy rules, I'm not trying to enter in a pissing match, I'm sure many of you make more money than me, but I can make money in the market and I just want to talk about investing, how I do it, if there's anyone more experienced and knowledgeable in it than me I would love to hear him and I would upvote every comment, I haven't downvoted one comment, but people just hate it when you're sure of yourself, I haven't said one non-obvious thing when it comes to investing here, turnaround companies really are what you're looking for when you invest in stocks, they can make you rich in a few years if you find them, and stick around until they reach their full potential, its not easy, but its not hard either, you need to be cold and cunning though.

I think you should check your math.

Here's a compound interest calculator. Lets add the following values:

Initial investment $0.00

Regular addition $200.00 bi-weekly

Interest rate 7% (average S&P500 return over last 30 years)

Compounded yearly.

Years to grow: 20

Results are $220,266.77.

The only way you could turn 200 bucks a paycheque into millions in 20 years would be through significantly higher rates of return, which are also much higher risk.

If, however, you increase the amount you can contribute each paycheque (invest in self, learn skills, get better job, bank mo' dolla) then the resultant 20-year number increases dramatically.

Lets say you get a better job that pays an extra $3 an hour. With a 40-hour work week that's an extra $240/cheque, or about $200 after taxes. Add that to your previous $200 bi-weekly contribution for $400 total, and now you're looking at $440,533.53 after 20 years.

For an extra $3/hour. With no added risk.
