Has anyone tried to do this? It's where you take an extended break from the things in life that bring about a surge of dopamine. These can include alcohol, shopping, food, masturbation, video games, social media, Netflix, browsing the Internet, playing on the phone, listen to music, read, etc. Usually it's done for a day or more. What you can do during that time is to drink water, meditate, write, go for a walk, etc.

I think we need this break in order to reset our brain's reward circuit. We get so used to doing something to distract ourselves from pain, whether that's boredom, loneliness, or sadness. We often mask our pain with pleasure, so that we crave more and more pleasure over time. We get weaker because we can't deal with the small amounts of pain and stress in life.

I'll be trying this soon and seeing how it benefits me.
