If hundreds if not thousands of Red Pill readers agree with a post or comment, that means that it has merit to it.

This is only thing that needs to be pointed out to show you are completely wrong. There is no entry requirements for voting. Any shithead can do it, and they do. Assholes and jerks by the thousands vote and shit all over this sub by the hour. They do it without commenting and explaining the up or down, as pointed out by /u/FieldLine (or somebody, I'll correct it if it's not you) months ago.

What happens when you findout that 98% of the voters are retarded and cant actually grasp the topic at hand. To be honest, the vast majority of the posts on here are riddled with wrong info and poor advice (although the peoples intentions are good, their limited experience/intelligence have severly tainted the quality of most discussions. Progress is being made for sure; but its like constantly being blue balled, you think the guy is finally going to make the right point and you get excited only to leave disapointed and shocked at how little some people know and how self absorbed they are.

Perfect example of this is the post about correcting postural imbalances to help prevent injury and increase confidence. This could have been a great post and discussion but 98% of the people lacked the ability disect what they were reading and could not contribute. I corrected some of the errors from the initial post but by the time you get to the end you realize the entire post was wrong. Excellent topic, poor understanding of physics and anatomy needed to explain themselves/answer other people questions.

Thats the kind of environment that creates a false concensus that limits discussion. Especially if idiots are the majority and they begin to gang up on those few who truely know. Some of these things discussed on here are awesome topics/questions but the responses require a level of thought that most are not used to. The schooling system sucking and the fact that students are lazy little shits can be factored into some of the blame for that.

What is this virtue signalling you're doing here. Yes, this is how reddit works - the wisdom of the crowds. Most recently, the crowds have not been so wise and a lot of low-quality content has been upvoted.

You sound butthurt. Just when I thought the quality of your posts was getting better, you come up with wall of text that brings no value to the community. Let people decide for themselves as to what is quality and what isn't, regardless of the number of votes a post has.

There is no reason at all for making a new post, that is simply you critiquing another post.

The world does not revolve around you. This forum does not revolve around you. You can - actually - write quality content, and have done so, but that is easily lost because you post too much, and some of it is just noise. It would help if you applied these two principles:

Quality > Quantity

"What value does this provide to the person reading?"

On the topic "Are upvotes a good measure of quality in this community?"

Often yes, they will be. Good, useful, insightful, practical, valuable posts//comments - as you have pointed out - are likely to be upvoted.

Howeveer

This is a large community - there will be people who have contentious views. Views that have merit. That people will NOT WANT TO HEAR. Or express things in ways that people find uncomfortable.

There's also appeal - posts that appeal to a large number of people here, but do not rock the boat, or really provide anything of value other than audience pandering - or feel good posting. WILL BE UPVOTED

People upvote things they "Like" or "I enjoyed reading this" or "I agree" but that doesn't mean the thing they Like, Enjoyed reading, or agree with is necessarily quality.

Hell human beings have a wonderful capacity to like things that are fucking terrible.... whether stuffing their faces with poor quality food, or stuffing their minds with poor quality material - not because it is Good but because it Feels Good and there is an overwhelming difference.

Thats not to mention the whole way upvoting can easily be manipulated depending on time of post, style of it.... and how it serves as a little dopamine inducing validation system.

So in short - are upvotes a good measure of quality in this community? No, not in isolation. You need to be more discerning than that.
