Some of the Christian girls go to a big event at Church and promise their dads they won't have sex until marriage, and get the ring there.

it's what you give a girl / woman when you promise to marry her after you finish college and graduate. Or it's a promise to marry her after something more important needs to get done first. I see it's no different then an engagement ring except maybe the price for one is a lot cheaper then the other.

Honestly a promise ring is nothing more than a waste of money lol I guess it’s suppose to carry a cute message like “I promise to be with you” and blah blah blah, but if you’re already that dedicated than shouldn’t you just go for the engagement ring? For me personally- growing up promise rings were so popular in high school because everybody thought they had their soulmate, but not a single couple lasted. Ironically, the girls who didn’t care for that stuff had way longer and better relationships than the girls who were into the “promise ring” lifestyle. Like I said earlier, shouldn’t you just go for the engagement ring? And even then- like let’s say you’re too young to get married or whatever, wouldn’t it be a better idea to use that money for going away trips, or building something together? Trying something new? People are so bad- so so bad at using the resources in front of them.

As for why people buy them... why do most people buy stupid stuff? Advertising & marketing -- and fad, fashion, "trends" (real or astroturfed) -- has "sold" them on it.

From my understanding a promise ring is a ring that either you both wear or she wears and you guys promise yourselves to eachother. Its kind of like a relationship engagement saying you two are an official couple
