you'll never believe what i read in esquire magazine this month. oh wait, you will, because as pathetic as it may be, it's standard for today's media.

context: Men's Health ran a series that showed pieces of articles from the 50s and 60s—a post-war time when there was an open acceptance of traditional, biologically supported gender roles—and then offered a modern update.

here's the article from "Man's Life," published in 1959:

"You can't blame our women for running around, because what has the American male got to offer to keep her satisfied? The average American husband is in a well-worm rut.

'My husband is a doll,' said a woman who came to me for consultation recently. 'But what married woman gets a charge out of dolls?'

It's the men who have themselves to blame. And it's the men who could change the situation simply by being men.

The sooner they realize that by a little show of vigorous, imagination, and sexual know-how they could supply what the wife is running outside the home to get, the sooner she'd stop running off. After all, the wife isn't responsible for the fact that something vital is missing; the men are.

Once the men have stocked a hearty supply of excitement, interest, maleness, sexual technique, and backbone while unloading their namby-pamby childishness, then we will be able to honestly blame women for running around."

Guys, I don't even need to dissect this for you. It's a brilliant flash of insight from a long-gone decade about the relationship between men and women. It's easier said than done, perhaps, but the truth of the sentiment has never wavered even after all these years: be a fucking a man and a lot of your problems will suddenly disappear.

Oh, and just so you know how appallingly cucked Men's Health is, here's their modern "update":

"Women sought more sexual freedom, but they 'didn't want more backbone and force; that's an adolescent boy's fantasy,' says Harvard psychologist William Pollack, Ph.D. 'They wanted more openness, affection, and respect for their equal needs, including the sexual. That's genuine strength, something women still seek in 2017.'"

now that is just fucking embarrassing, folks.
