A party is a party no matter how classy it is or dolled up, go and enjoy yourself, get drunk (not during the ceremony of course) but you don't have to believe in the cause to have a good time.

In all seriousness "weddings" these days are beyond merely being a joke; in the vast majority of cases they've become a total FARCE. What I mean is the "couple" has usually already been living together and presenting themselves AS IF they were essentially (common law) "married" for YEARS -- so who's kidding whom with the while "white dress" and assorted other BS (not only ain't she "virginal" or "pure" but seriously they often even have one or more kids together {or previously} kids who are right there in one form or another).

And as for the whole "Ooooh, they're 'vowing' and 'committing' their lives to each other" nonsense ... riiiiight, pull the other one, it's got bells on it.

If you don't believe in weddings, don't have one. Your attendance won't impact whether or not they have one and won't affect the institution one way or another.

Instead, because this isn't your wedding ask yourself; Do you care about your friend's sister and the groom enough to go? Aside from your issues with the institution, would you enjoy attending? Do you care about the possible implications of not going?

I don't believe in weddings either, OP, but I don't let that prevent me from going. Instead what prevents me is the forced socialization, sitting for hours, traveling to places I don't want to go, mediocre food and music, and having to buy a gift for a couple that probably won't make it 5 years.

Be honest with the consequences of your actions and just do whatever you want.

I also don't really have anything to wear. I pretty much never dress up, and any "nice" clothes I have don't fit me anymore. I don't feel like going out and buying clothes that I'm only going to wear once. I'm having financial issues now, so I'm very careful with how I spend my money. If In could wear jeans (which I know you shouldn't wear to weddings) then it wouldn't be that bad.

Even if you're not planning anything right now, what if at that specific time you decide you'd rather go for a run or play Xbox?

Never tell people you're free, they'll always want your time. Always tell them you'll see if you can make time; that leaves the table open to your discretion.

You guys keep mentioning "free" food and etc. But it's a wedding, you don't show up empty-handed. You must bring "gifts" which is usually in the form of cash-money. $100-$200 and maybe even more depend on your social group.

Also you gotta prepare some "extra" nice clothes. You might have to rent it. For working people, you gotta talk to your boss about taking a day off and schedule it and etc (depend on which day is the wedding).

ALL OF THIS require a lot of efforts on your part. It's especially tougher on a MGTOW because he's force to celebrating something he clearly doesn't give a damn about (most MGTOW would advice against marriage).
