I blame it on the education system and media/Hollywood. It is now a known fact that many of the universities were infiltrated back in the 1930s with academics who were Socialists (many of these professors were Jews fleeing Germany in the 30s and set up shop in many of the Ivy League universities in America--they later moved on to Britain and set up shop in the London School of Economics). By the time they left the U.S. they had influenced a large number of young men who would later become professors and highly placed bureaucrats in the U.S. government.

Concurrently, the Soviets made it a point to infiltrate the U.S. entertainment industry...there was a very popular folk singer back in the 30s/40s/50s, Woody Guthrie, who was very pro-Communist and pushed that message with his songs (This Land is your land/this land is my land--remember singing this in grade school music class?). Furthermore, many aspiring actors, actresses and writers in the 30s and 40s joined the American Communist Party--If you watch many of Henry Fonda's earlier movies (Grapes of Wrath, etc) there is a very pro-socialist/communist feel to them. Then there was the outright connivance of the news media with the Communists. The New York times sent a reporter, Walter Duranty to report about the Soviet Union--the guy literally made shit up about how great Communism was working for Russia and is the earliest example of fake news (he also won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on this topic).

On the government side, it is now known that FDR's administration was filled with Communist sympathizers/spies (Alger Hiss)--who guided America's foreign affairs to ensure the Soviets got a great deal post-WW2 (remember the Iron Curtain?). Along come the 1960s, the young men who were university students in the 1930s were now of an age where they were the university profs, government bureaucrats, well-respected actors and directors. Couple that with the unpopular Vietnam War, the introduction of mind-altering drugs en mass to society (marijuana, LSD, etc), the seemingly unstoppable Communists taking over many countries in Europe and Asia and young people who had been told that getting a university degree was their path to happiness and riches--and parents who had lived through the Great Depression and WW2--who were willing to indulge their children (the Boomers) with their hard-won, post-WW2 largesse...The perfect storm, so to speak. Until Pres Reagan bankrupted the Soviet Union and won the Cold War without firing a shot...ALL the "experts" believed that the communists would take over the world and the USA would eventually succumb.

Its because progressives and conservatives ally with one another when it comes to sex. The progressives thinks sex is exploitative so they went after websites like backpages claiming sexual slavery and pedophilia. The conservative right thinks sex is immoral so they also agree with progressives on the issue.
