If anyone is having a hard time distinguishing what bare minimum is... My go to philosophy is to question the behavior through my own lens. I always ask myself, "Is this something I would do (or have done) for someone important in my life?" If yes, then this behavior is normal, is expected, and probably bare minimum. So say, something like remembering someone's birthday. That's pretty normal, to be expected if someone is important to you, and is the bare minimum for any relationship (romantic or otherwise).

If the answer is no, then it may be considered "above and beyond" but only if this behavior is good. Something like... going on an all expense paid trip with someone. That's pretty above and beyond as I have never done this for anyone before; I don't expect anyone to do this for me; and it's a pretty expensive thing to do in both time and money (time = planning).
