The Title IX rules were always terrible and basically did away with the rule of law, reasonable doubt, and the right to face your accuser.

Rules that came out of the "Dear Colleague" letter were a huge over-correction to a problem that not everyone agreed on. This is a correction back, and I'm sure there will be more refinements as we try to ensure everyone's rights in these cases.

I'm not a DeVos fan and I don't know if this should be the final plan, but I do believe it's a move in the right direction.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos released a controversial proposal Friday to overhaul how schools across the country address sexual misconduct complaints, narrowing the definition of what sexual harassment is on campus and reinforcing "Due process" rights for students accused.

The rule creates three categories for harassment, including "Unwelcome conduct on the basis of sex that is so severe, pervasive and objectively offensive that it effectively denies a person equal access to the school's education program or activity;" "Quid pro quo harassment," like a school employee "Conditioning an educational benefit" on a person's sexual conduct; and sexual assault.

"Every survivor of sexual violence must be taken seriously, and every student accused of sexual misconduct must know that guilt is not predetermined," DeVos said in a statement Friday.

This is just not going happen:

- Accused students would be presumed innocent during the disciplinary process and given the right to review all evidence a school collects.

They are counting on the media to give "strenght" to their bullshit claims, once the word is out, the reputation of the guy is already on the floor.

If they want this thing to succeed they need to make sure false acusers face the same punishment they were intending to cause on the innocent guy. Complete anonimity until a veredict has been reached would also be nice.

Betsy DeVos has no educational background and has no business being the Secretary of Education. She is unqualified.

Also, schools have no business investigating allegations of criminal behavior - that is the purview of law enforcement.
