Dating is like a free market. Girlfriends are fully aware that they have competition and thus have an incentive for constant improvement, just like companies with competitors do.

Marriage is like a monopoly. The wife has the husband strung up by his nuts. No incentive for good behavior. The pretense might be kept up for a while but there's no mechanism to enforce it - the guy has signed that away at the wedding.

Can't understand why bright guys who otherwise understand market dynamics clearly won't see the exact same dynamics in relationships.

I would never get married but I remember telling a girl, "I'll show you the ring box, but I won't open it unless you say yes. If you say yes to marriage, a life together, the ring shouldn't matter that much. If you say no, then it really doesn't matter what the ring looks like because you won't see it."

When I was dating the woman I married, the sex was frequent (like every time we got together), the fights didn't exist. When we were out with friends she talked me up constantly. When a woman asked about my dick, she said it was like getting fucked by a tree trunk.

Not even a week into the marriage we had our first fight ever. She was insulting me to her friends (the hens get together, one bitches about her husband and all have to find flaws, or exaggerate the flaws, in their spouses to compete), and my dick size shrank when asked about it.

I also noticed that when I was alone I had savings, I had no problem covering my bills, and when we got together, even though we were suddenly a dual income couple, we never had any fucking money. Part of the problem was that she was bipolar and when she was manic she spent like crazy and when she was depressed she felt better by shopping. Each time she spent all our money she would ask her dad for money and he'd call me up bitching that if I were a real man, I would be able to better care for his baby girl.

We were married for less than five years.
