When people compare data from fifty years ago and say autism is on the rise and look for a cause. My first thought is to initially use the same testing methods that were used fifty years ago and compare again. Today we have a deeper understanding of what autism is. People that managed to slip thru the screening fifty years ago are being identified today because of more advanced testing methods. So no autism is not on the rise. Our ability to detect it has just gotten better with time
