I'm in my 20s and about to move out. My mother is a horrible person and has been more toxic as of late. I only have 2 days off during the week (as I work weekends), and coincidentally she just so happens to be at home those same days. We ignore each other most of the time, except during dinner. It is usually at the dinner table that she releases all her pent-up frustration onto me, and I just have to sit there with my eyes averted and nod obsequiously. She makes fun of my weight, depression, social anxiety, lack of social circle, calls me a failure, and how I will never amount to anything. The one area she knows she can't touch is my college studies, as I'm doing well there. But, I just can't understand what I have done to deserve this. I have started to hang around at college late at night after work during the week, as I would much rather be in the library than at home receiving verbal and psychological abuse, which not only is affecting my mental health, but also my motivation to continue studying. It has gotten to a point where she thinks that I am staying late at the library to work on assignments, but it's actually to avoid living at home with her (as I usually only return home to sleep). I am just so sick of my life right now, I am stressed out, and I don't have anyone to look to for support. I honestly would be much happier just dropping out of college, failing my course, working a minimum wage job with 100+hrs/wk, so long as it meant that I wouldn't have to live under her roof. I would live a simple life, not caring about having expensive possessions, or a respectable career. I would work, pay rent, and if I had enough time in my day, exercise or possibly go to the cinema and watch a film. That would be my life, not having to strive for anything great or live up to my academic potential. I wouldn't be hurting anyone nor would anyone have a reason to hurt me. I would be simply minding my own business, and if I had any money left over for the week (after rent, food, clothing etc.) I would give it away to charity.

I've always felt women were inherently morally inferior to men, but I thought exceptions could be made to how a mother would treat her son.
