My favorite ‘wall-hanger” is a Springfield Trapdoor carbine in .45-70. It’s well over 100 years old, and is the same weapon carried by Custer’s men at the Little Big Horn. It displays well with an old cavalry saddle that I have.

Far superior to the f’ing Longaberger baskets that my ex collected.

Nice M1! Hopefully you didn’t find much cosmolene in the bolt and catch, as some were packed heavy for preservation. Cosmolene is a buggart to remove.

I, personally, have a 1918 year Swiss Smidt-Rueben 1911 in (almost) mint condition on the wall. Certain ones were stamped as ‘released’ to the soldier upon retiring, if it was a career weapon matched to a soldier. These were released with a stamped number to the family name as heirlooms. Similar to crest arms memorials. Mine has one of these numbers. Currently looking for the field kit and bayonet to match.....

I love the old history that accompanies old weapons.

Make sure you only run M2 ball ammo through it, or install an adjustable gas plug.

Full power hunting ammo will bend the operating rod, as these rifles were over-gassed to compensate for battlefield fouling.
