(I'm not claiming I'm ripped - skinnyfat, yes. Just that old fat men CAN get ripped - need to work on it first - just lost fat and muscle yet) Me age 48 and age 52 (right, thank god). I went from 88 kg to 65. From fat faded fuckface ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDI5nXKi7e8) slob without a shred of fashion sense to a slim, sensible human being, able to do lots of pullups, pushups etc. (you gotta believe me, gents :-) I lost a quarter of my body weight and I'm even slimmer and much more muscular now than the pic on the right, which is is nearly a year old. Since then I worked HARD to put on some muscle and get rid of the "skinny fat" look. If a lazy old halfwit with health issues can do it, you can too!
Someone said I was karma-whoring and not a real MGTOW because posting here anything else but "I hate whimminz" seems to be not in the spirit of things here but I'm trying to get everyone to post stuff about their accomplishments, goals, projects and activities, for mutual inspiration and advancement! I like the MGTOW sub but please show us some parts of yaall's life, give me some ideas, like how to start with fishing, I want to know, it all looks so complicated, millions of gadgets and rods, what stuff to buy for muddy lakes, from the shore? Fly fishing seems interesting. Let's start posting more motivational stuff for MEN. Yours truly: https://imgur.com/a/gAh2R
I'd be so nice if r/MGTOW would be a place where men get together to get inspired instead of bitching about chicks 24/7.

bitch about chicks 24/7
It's part of the game. I appreciate those posts as a constant reminder why we went our own way. But yeah, it's all about the balance. A little bitching here a little motivational stuff there.
And of course congratulations from a younger dude who did something similar a few years ago, went from 85kg to 65kg and built up some decent muscels too. Having a fit body rocks ;)

Totally not true, people on here give each other lifestyle advice, aside from dealing with wymminz.

True. I hope to contribute (I'm new here).

[–]fcb982924 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I liked keto but couldn't get enough fiber. Totally distracted from everything when you are all backed up.
[–]fruguy1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I had that problem too. Although I don't do keto now, I do eat low fiber.
Check out Fiber Menace. Basically his theory is your gut has been ravaged by fiber and now depends on it. I followed his program to reduce fiber and now I don't get constipated anymore if I don't consume it.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I had the same thing. Solved it by adding lowcarb veg and salad. still under 20 g carbs.
[–]eja_cool81 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I fucking knew it! That diet is amazing.
[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy110 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
And if they have photoshop.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
The right pic was indeed photoshopped to get rid of terrible perspective distortion (taken from short distance in mirror) and indeed I think this made me look too slim. But I went from 36" or thereabouts (38" even, IIRC) to 30" jeans and now I even fit in 29" and I lost 25% of body weight. I think the difference is clear... I need better Photoshop (Paint Shop Pro 5.0, actually...) skills to get rid of perspective distortion while preserving exact correct body proportions.

Thanks but my face and life and opinions and address is no secret. It's a pic of a random dude - me. I have no job to lose. I have no valuables in my house, unless you count some heavy industrial machines, lol. And my country has MUCH more liberal gun laws than Texas so I'm not worried about crazed killers either :-) Here you can legally take a concealed, loaded gun into a church, mall or kindergarden. And carry a huge double-edged knife openly on your belt, ready to draw with one hand. I'm armed, both at home and on the street. Even convicted murderers are permitted to carry guns after they did their time. Shall-issue, three years after getting released. I live in MGTOW country. No crazy divorce laws either. No common law marriage either. No alimony either. Only limited child support.

Interesting. I also did alternate-day fasts and fasts where I'd walk 26 km (16 miles?). And days where I walked very much. I also read that many sets is pointless. That even one set to failure works. And that long rest periods are important. One researcher even claims that you can have three weeks rest in between single sets, lol.

Good for you brother but now we need to talk about dressing like an adult. Not a gay adult, not a beta adult and not a 18 year old adult but an adult. Since we're dudes you just need NO crotch killing tight jeans, matching belts/shoes (color/Fabic) and a proper fitting polo or short sleve button up.
I can't stress enough how proud I am of you for taking back control, looking better and extending quality of life but ffs man don't dress like you are in this picture. To me it screams all the wrong things.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You're right. I've been fat for so long, I was wearing sweatpants and large T-shirts. Then I dropped so much weight, I was trying to fit in the the skinniest stuff I bought online.

That is a legit excuse man, live and learn.
Well, the main reason actually is that's I'm autistic... Really. Asperger's. Always looked like an idiot. That's basically because I AM an idiot.

Awesome, bro! And you achieved all of this just by lifting your phone? How many reps?
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Actually there is some research that says that many reps with lower weight works just as well for muscle hypertrophy than less with more. NOT for actual strength though. I only now focus on muscles. The right pic is skinnyfat.
How I lost the weight: I found a way to induce into myself a state of Anorexia nervosa, seriously. I had only one goal: Be hungry in the evenings. That would make me feel GOOD. I would do a long night walk if I wasn't hungry enough because that made me feel GUILTY. I also cut out most carbs.

Have an upvote. Anything that makes someone happy. I can tell you that my T-levels nearly doubled due to the weight loss, excercise and different eating habits. Testosterone seems to be responsible for men's sense of humor BTW. Listen buddy: I come here to talk about interesting stuff with men who go their own way. Independent thinkers. For mutual benefit and perhaps making some friendships. For whining about the whimminz there was r/incels so I get it that you're hanging out here now and that's OK and you can bitch and whine as much as you like and even attack folks that do NOT bitch and whine about the whimminz in an attempt to drive away real MGTOW and turn this into incels 2.0, but don't expect me to shut up just because I make you feel cognitively dissonant. Incels are the opposite of MGTOW. Their main desire is to be with a woman. It's like feminists on this sub attacking people here.

Good job man. Back when i was a teen i was working this shitty job, anyway i worked with this guy who was like 65-70 and damn he was a machine. He was ripped he would go to the gym everyday before work, and even when he got to work he didn't slow down, i had trouble keeping up with him, i mean i was 16 at the time so i was kinda lazy at that age. But it just goes to show that men at any age are capable of getting ripped if they want it.

Awesome dude. You ain't doing this impress cunts, you're doing this to improve your fitness and health into the old age. Yeah, I would know because I don't want to get really bad health with extremely high blood pressure, etc. I know some guys who died before they hit 50, heart attack is the main one. Congratulations, man, keep it up. Kind of sucks to eat healthy food instead the food you love.
Thanks! Would believe it, I actually prefer ketofood over my old food now. The hard part is a caloric deficit in winter and body building with arthritis...

Holy crap. Did you put your skull in a vice to slim it down like that? I knew weight loss has an impact on the face but that's more change than i expected going from 88 to 65kg.
It just so happens i'm 88kg at the moment, coming down from 99, aiming to hit 77 by September. Thanks for the motivational post. Good job on you, sir.
Keep going, man. They used to call me "egghead" in school :-) They call that "strong face gains". I was 51, slimmed like that after that pic and waiting for hours in a Greek airport on my way to Crete in very early spring, winter, basically. Some British skank, 45 yo, started to chat me up. Thought I was 29. When I told her my real age, she immediately asked "Can we be friends, do you have Facebook". I was repulsed (she had a face where alcohol and smoking had left harsh traces) but still nice to have a woman think you're much younger than you really are...
[–]DarwinianKEKistani0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You call that ripped? Hahahah
Nope. I said that it is POSSIBLE for (fat) old men to get ripped. I never said: "Look at how ripped I am". I'm still only in the weightloss stage. But I'm seeing changes and I know I will reach my goal.
[–]DarwinianKEKistani0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
During weight loss you should also lift weight in order to keep muscle mass or even gain new muscle mass

I ditched ( metaphorically) the mirror and actually the scales. Callisthenics, jogging, fartlek, and cross country mountain biking because Ilike these activities and can usually do them whenever I feel like, something one or more everyday. I'm 68 and want to remain active as long as possible, to never give up on exercise not because of appearance but just to feel good about myself. Thanks for posting.
Thank man, keep going. I have serious chronic illness already for two decades that lead to me getting depressed and not excercise and eat too much and the wrong things. Until I decided I refuse to take it anymore. For ex. lifting: I absolutely am not allowed to, by my doc. My tendons rip easily (inherited from my mom who ripped 8 tendons in her hands once when she lifted a folding bed...) and I have chronic autoimmune arthritis.
So I ignored the advice and started to lift. Result: I caused severe, permanent damage (refuse an operation, afraid of the hospitals here). Damaged shoulder sockets that hurt sleeping on my side due to all the excercise with heavily inflamed joints, completely ripped off tendon in some weird muscle on my back that's now a soft, huge tender lump for a year already.
Fuck it. I MUST and WILL do it.

I decided against a replacement disc procedure 10 years ago because of the risks. I've got some nerve damage which causes pain in my hands, but whilst it's been reduced to nuisance level ie I've got used to it, never goes away. I admire your determination.
[–]Blaat19850 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They need to hop on TRT for it to happen.
I tried so many diets and none of them really worked in the long run. I've been on keto the longest but I also felt the worst on it. Right not I stopped controlling my diet and just eat whatever I want twice a week. Rest of the time I am on high protein diet. I don't know how people do it but good for them if they can have such and insane progress like yours.
OK Dr., let me give my 2 cents, after having also tried all kinds of diets and finally having a settled, low weight for a full year and still losing body fat %:
Motivation is key so you can endure the hunger pangs. You must eat at a significant deficit in order to lose weight. So you should work on STRONG motivation. I need to re-motivate myself occasionally or I slip and give in. I use a carrot and stick approach: Fear for health issues and looking forward to getting ripped.
Why Keto is the only way to go for obese people is because it's the only natural diet and thus is unable to cause obesity. A bonus is that hunger in a deficit is minimized due to the always-stable blood sugar.
However, unless you do Keto PROPERLY, it won't work whatsoever and you'll even get fatter. That happened to me. I ate too many nuts and too much protein. Excess protein, above the little your body turns over every day (about 75 grams) gets converted into glucose which raises Insulin and all fat folks have Insulin-resistant fat cells. Meaning those cells refuse to release their Triglycerides unless the Insulin levels are near-zero, which the never are, since even when a pre-diabetic person sleeps, his Insulin levels are crazy high.
A perfect, always-working solution is alternate-day fasting, while doing strict Keto on other days (<= 20 g net carbs/day). Be careful to be in a deficit but don't overdo it and get eating binges. So, eat at maintenance every so many days. I lost enormous weight eating nothing all day and walk ten miles on such days. I did that three times in one week and dropped a full kilo. I ate 25% over maintenance on the other days. But hunger binges will ensue unless you're keto-adapted, which takes many weeks. Keto-adaptation are epigenetic protein expressions that make your Mitochondria able of running on Triglycerides efficiently. Before you're keto-adapted, you feel like shit.
Keep trying different things and different foods. I got severe constipation that I solved by this diet, that loses weight as well:
Morning meal: 3 egg-omelette with bacon and Feta cheese topping.
Evening meal: Salad with canned sardines and 300 g of salady stuff like cucumber, celery, peppers.
This is just 20 g carbs (I calculated it carefully) and I control hunger with some cups of Espresso during the day.
[–]JohnPettimore0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I did it, too. A few suggestions:
a) You have to be EXTREMELY careful of your diet. This takes some practice, but when you're older (I'm 55) you don't have the metabolism to eat crap. Diet is at least half of it. b) Hire a trainer. A good one. Pay him. It's worth it. Having a pro work with you makes all the difference in the world. c) Be very careful about injury. Stretch, warm up, take your time working up to heavy weights, and be very careful about Crossfit. You need someone watching you all the time, and form is critical. Example -- sloppy form bench pressing is a great way to eventually come down with a shoulder injury. d) Assume you have to work out every day. You can take a day or two off a week, if you're really beat up, but at our age, results take daily work. e) Be patient. This takes steady, consistent effort.
