The last few lines say even his parents are against the marriage. Some people receive attention from women so little in their lives, that they'll take anything. Blue pill guys know on some level that everyone is right when everyone says they're in a bad relationship, but I think that they think the sacrifice is worth it because they think they'll never get a chance with a woman ever again. Especially this guy, if it's true that he has muscular dystrophy, because he very likely has not, nor ever will again get any attention from a woman.
