Not only the Chinese. In most countries a single woman with 30 is seen as either a bitch or crazy. In either case a useless woman. A man who fails to have a good job until 30 is seen as an idiot. Useless as well. The fact that nobody speaks about it today is because of PC. The mind hasn’t changed.

Basically, if we follow nature's rules and not our own, a woman has her peak smv when she starts to have her period. That's when, back in the day, they were married off and started families. A lot of cultures still acknowledge this to a degree. Both japanese and chinese know women 25+ are used goods. They know even women 20+ women are damaged, but are somewhat more tolerant towards them, because they might have put marriage on hold to go to college and earn a degree.

Define “peak”.

I’m in my mid 30’s and I can lift more and I sleep less than I did 10 years ago.

I don’t run as fast but that might be because I’ve also been using swimming (moved to a neighborhood with a pool -using it while the weather is warm), biking (do plenty of errands on my bike), and circuit training for cardio. That being said, I swim faster than I did in college and I have a lot more endurance in long hikes. I also recover much faster from workouts.

These changes may be due to better training and recovery methods as well as improved knowledge of nutrition.

The only sign I’ve noticed of aging was graying and thinning hair, although most of that was due to a series of stressful jobs I had in my 20’s.

So I don’t believe 30 is a “peak” for a man except in the field of athletics. even then, with proper diet and training you’ll stay very close to your physical peak into your 50’s while your knowledge and wealth accumulates.

Regarding women’s peak, their reproductive peak is in their 20’s. But if they eat right and exercise, the majority can remain attractive into their early 40’s. And they can also develop their own skills (get better at their job, get better at cooking, save money, etc) that would make them pleasant company and compensate for their diminishing physical appearance. however many of them don’t.

Actually it was very recent in western culture (1990s) that 30 for a man and a woman was practically "game over" in terms of SMV and youth.

Thing is the number has been pushed back for both genders because we're arguably in a peter pan society now.

A 38 year old woman can practically go on Tinder and get nonstop sex with men half her age and probably find a bunch who'll commit to her.

I find this concept existing in China currently as very strange. China for years (up until recently) had limits on one child per family- since culturally there was favor towards males. There is a large gap in gender with men out numbering women 2-1. I guess I just assumed that women would be easily matched up and there wouldn't be women around to date.

This is a common sense in Asian cultures.

Not only the East Asians, but the Indians and the Southeast Asians have the same idea about marriage age. 25-29 is considered a really, truly, seriously maximum time for womwn to be married. Once they reached 30, their hope of locking a husband slowly diminishes, rapidly, exponentially. Lots of Muslims here care about the mother's age ratio to the children. If the children is 12 years old and the woman married at 30 years old, she will be 42 years old, which is a bad ratio. By the time they enter university (let's say 21), mom is already 51. And this is IF she get children in the same year she's married. But usually with diminishing fertility......well, minimun a couple of years for the first child.

This is also why in animes or hentais, most women are in the body of a woman in her age 25 and below. Even the so-called MILF hentais, are usually with big, juicy boobs and a thick, hourglass/pear body, ignoring the fact that a 40 year old woman is a trainwreck in our 3D world.
