Luxury and easy life creates a weak society that doesn't know how to fight.

Take Britian. The Romans invaded, we put up a good fight repelling off their first invasion. A year later a second Roman invasion was more succesful and Britain became occupied.

Over the next 400 years the warrior Brits became accusted to Roman life, Roman baths, Roman culture, Roman law. We softened up so much and submitted to Roman protection... that when Romans pulled out every shit head tribe around started trying to invade.

So much so that the Brits wrote to the Roman Emporer begging for them to send a legion or 2... they declined.. Britain fell into savagery and decline taking several hundreds years for the country to get back on it's feet and united again.

Honestly, this is how I view it. It's a constant cycle. We may live through a few in our lifetime, or be only part of a rotation during our short stay on this little blue rock hurtling through the universe. But in the end, it helps to know that it's just temporary. Things will change, for the better and for the worse, but things will always change.

At least the world keeps itself relatively interesting.

This is exactly why I'm not trying to save the world. Decline is inevitable until another generations suffers like the greatest generation did. This decline may be much more historically significant by the time its over.
