If previous work places of mine are anything to go by, it's accepted that women are more likely to be absent from work through sick days and time off. Never mind actually hanging back after hours when something absolutely needs to be done... nope, they'll be packed and gone come knock off time.

Of the people at my school, the one who has taken the most time off - by a wide margin - is a woman.
This year, for the first six months I was there, she was the only woman. Racked up more days off in one semester than most male teachers have in the whole year so far.

I work a manual labor job and we hired a girl a while back. For 3 straight months she never went a whole week without calling in or leaving hours early. Meanwhile guys were getting fired for being late a couple times a month.

Showed up, as a line cook, late 20mins, 4th time in 8 months. Written up and fired. Waitress called in sick 16 times in 2 months, still works there.
Edit: the restaurant was empty save an old man. Manager had to cook 2 eggs and a single pancake. My ass got fired over 2 eggs and a flapjack.

In 10 years I skipped two days at work. Once I had an accident in mandatory military service exercise which always results in a legal clusterfuck (for good reasons) and medical checks.
The other time I got real fucking drunk and I knew late at night that it wouldn't work out the next day and I sent an email to my boss explaining just that. If you need a day, be honest about it.

I was passed over for a well deserved promotion for a woman who was recruited from another company. Within her first four months with us, she has missed THIRTY work days, and has now given notice that she's leaving.
