You need to read the fine print properly the growth in USA/Canada is very small, it is probably below the increase of population growth. Most of the growth is coming from developing and Asian countries. Two reasons for this, first is increasing number of people with access to the internet. Second reason is Facebook is being heavily pushed by cellphone providers in these areas. In some cases, cellphone providers even are offering free Facebook access.

Finally, traffic itself doesn't translate into profits, it is highly dependent where the traffic comes from and type of traffic.

I've found that most of the people who I've heard personally referring to deactivating their Facebook are men. Of course, the majority of women couldn't possibly give up the attention and validation offered to them by putting their entire lives up for the world to see. Y'see, that would be difficult and may require them to develop an actual personality and perhaps seek an actual social life. Altogether, most people who post frequently to Facebook and don't use it just for business or to keep in touch with distant friends and family, are trying to create the illusory image of a 'perfect' life. They're all globe-trotting, strong and independent, virtuoso, talented, multi-faceted and well-rounded human beings on Facebook. Or at least, that's the image they try to present. In reality, between all of the pictures of 'fun nights out' and 'amazing' trips to Wherethefuckisthatistan, they are just as empty and devoid as everybody else. They suffer from vanity and an external locus of identity.

Most men I know have deleted their Facebook, but they didn't do it out of 'protest' or because they don't like what Facebook is doing with their data. They did it because it's fucking boring and worthless to them. Some of them still maintain business or work-related pages, which is one of very few things that Facebook is useful for. They don't need external validation and constant attention. Additionally, anyone who was conscious of privacy and data security was not on Facebook at all or didn't stay long. You know why? Because you'd have to be a complete fucking moron to think that Facebook wasn't milking every bit of data they could out of you and selling it or using it for other purposes.

The news that Facebook is selling data, using data for political purposes, or manipulating data in ways that are detrimental to their users, was not news at all to anyone who was paying the slightest bit of fucking attention. Anyone who knows anything about technology and the Internet already fucking knows exactly what Facebook was doing. Problem is, the average Tom, Dick and Jane don't give a fuck about their data or their privacy. They figure, they've got nothing to hide, so why not let Cuckerberg and the G-Men flip through every bit of their data? It's their civic duty. Anyone who gave a fuck about privacy wasn't on Facebook in the first place. It isn't some great revelation that Facebook was doing this and continues to do so. The average person doesn't fucking care and will continue to use Facebook to flip through photos of ugly babies, garbage memes and pictures of other people's fucking food.

I made a reddit thread telling everyone to buy up facebook stock a few weeks back (bought 20k myself, even though I don't even use facebook). People were panicking thinking facebook would end up like myspace - but the truth is that only the people who didn't use facebook anyway deleted their accounts and posted complaints.

I technically still have a facebook but even after I thought I deleted my account years ago but on the rare occasion I check my email, I somehow still get emails from them, it's just easier to allow it to continue to collect dust.
