It's fucking hilarious how easy it is to save money without paying for women. I earn $35,000 before taxes per year. I save $10k a year, and I live well enough that I barely would know what to do with that 10k if I wanted to spend it. All this and I'm 27. No weight of women or crushing student loan debt.

Great advice. Thanks. I am 30 now looking to get into monetary investments. Fundamentally, where should I start? I only maintain employee retirement accounts? Should I hire a broker or use the etrade versions and manage it myself? Should I invest while paying off (awful) student loans or pay the debt off first?

On #3, where are good resources for those types of whole market index funds? By whole market does it include different sectors (securities, commodities, currencies, etc.) or one exchange like NASDAQ? I am interested in investing in the US freight railroads (UP, BSNF, KSX, NSF, CSX) and energy (natural gas, coal, etc.) as they are usually very stable and are utilities that people always need.

On #4, to never take money out which is crucial for retirement account, so when you sell you should not cash in gains or re-invest back in? Thoughts on annuities? Real estate? Even cryptocurrency? Sorry for the litany of questions. Thanks again!

Absolutely true. i started at my first job. The more you suffer at the beginning, the more you live in leisure at the end. $1000 early on pays massively at the end.
Easily have a half million. That's just if things go lightly O.k. People really need to stop waiting until they're 40 to save for the future.
There are several good strategies of diversification. But the "best" and most consistent ones are a mixture of bonds and index funds. DCA works very well despite ups and downs. If you want to invest in a "hot stock", make sure that you own and run the company you're investing in.
That's what I hate to see the most. People quit their job, and empty their 401k to "tide them over" while they look for a job. No you idiot. Eat Ramen, sleep on couches, walk with a limp. You better be literally bleeding out before you rape your future by emptying your investment accounts for bullshit. And for God's sakes. Never empty your 401k for a wedding or engagement ring. And don't be lazy. Get your ass a job. None of that bullshit about how you can't find one. That's total horseshit. You mean you can't find one you want that meets your standards. You're NEVER too good to sweep the streets. You can always quit and find a different one later. Do not fuck your future. Jesus these people sound like bimbos chasing Chads. "I can't find a husband!" while turning down 100s who are interested. Jobs are the same thing.
Well that goes without saying. They are the number one liability, followed by children, your number two liability. Avoid them all. Once you're rich, secure, and retired, then date all the beach bunnies you want. Adopt that 18 year old Vietnamese girl you have your eye on. Whatever you're into.

I find it strange that your typical Big bank investment advice is being upvoted on this subreddit and bitcoin and game changing currencies are not being promoted.

While I do agree with this post. You should also DIVERSIFY. Assets should be split up 4 ways into:

1.Bitcoin and other Altcoins like ETHER, ANTSHARES, WAGERR etc 2.Gold (PHYSICAL BULLION) 3.Stocks (BLUECHIP monopoly companies) 4.Real estate rental

I'm kinda semi retired at 37. Paid off a small house before I turned 35, this has saved me a large bill every month. I don't think I'll fully retire because I don't want to, but now my money just go into stocks and toys

I disagree on index funds. Go with reliable individual stocks. You will beat any fund manager out there with some research and common sense. Diversify across industries.

I disagree with never taking money out. When the writing is on the wall, when you sense trouble coming (and financial reporting is very good these days), go ahead and go to cash. Wait. Don't try to catch a falling knife. When the shit settles, buy back in. You don't have to be a dumbass and ride the crash like a mook.

401k's are all bullshit excuses for companies to pay you less than you're worth and to use your "pay" to earn for themselves. They get 8% on the money they hold back from you while you become vested, and only give you 6% match and some shitty 4% yield once you are actually allowed to get your own damn money out. Why is the rest of the market getting 8% consistently while your shitty 401k only gets you 4%? Because your employer and the retirement plan managers took a cut. Get your returns now by investing it yourself in something that has respectable yield or growth potential.

Don't fuck around. Get serious investment support. All the big players allow you to do self-directed investing, with access to current market research information. Read the financial news every day. Lifting costs. Reading Morningstar and S&P earns. If you find more than three research sources saying "go" you know you have something worth getting into.

Bottom line, letting other people handle your money is like letting other people fuck your whore.

Got divorced. Paid off her debts as per courts. Saved $5000 Invested in oil shares in aussie. Sold for $40000(at one point worth $70000 but i fucked up and yes it involved a woman)

Bought a business Business bought me a home.

13 years after divorce i am selling my inner city brick n tile. Buying a farmlet 6 acres beautiful massive home. Spa pond creek farm equipment. Will be left with $220000 in bank. Going minimalist off grid . Prepper in training.

Learn how to trade. You can make money if the markets goes up or down and do it even if your eighty. Investor's Business Daily a good source of info and their weekly pub practically tells you what's playable.

It's not gambling, it's probablity. Any one in this game for awhile can tell you by looking at the chart if the stock will go up or down but when--that's the question. It's fun but paper trade (simulate a trade) when you start, or you hit a rough patch, and get plenty of practice.

Here's another tip: have roughly 20x the amount of money you require to live on annually in retirement. This amount will be your returns on investing passively on index funds the 20x the amount of the market.

Already ahead of it. 18 years old and I am already started. I just have a lot to learn about various other accounts to put money in and their benefits. I also remember when Bitcoin was $300 per, but I was not old enough to invest on my own (still bitter) but I like crypto stuff. Good post nonetheless.

Be careful. The financial markets are at a peak. Diversify. Diversify. Diversify.

An index fund is cheap in fees but you can't get your money out on time. Also it's way too dumb picking stocks by some fake ratings agency and by industry.

I'd rather build real assets with low costs. Cheap housing. Ride the gentrification wave.

Be tax smart.

Be healthy.

Don't buy costly bullshit you might not need like new car on payments.

Maybe invest in education or certification.

Check out /r/personalfinance but with a grain of salt.

Also invest in what you know or have people who know invest for you. Me personally I get stocks buying a piece of something dividends all makes sense and I am comfortable with. However had friends do bad didn't understand "low maintenance" chasing hot stock. However they tried doing options and understood enough to limit risk and are making good money they found something a little more their style. I have others that invest in projects they know cars find broken fix flip for profit. Then do low thought low risk low reward investing.
