Recently I've been seeing a lot of doctors; I haven't really taken the best care of myself the last few years and it's caught up with me. What struck me right away is how many women are now doctors -- in every field. It seems like an almost even split.

What was even more surprising is the differences between the two in how they interact with patients. Every male doctor had a great bedside manner, would always let me know what their plan was and most importantly -- WHY. The male doctors would talk about every procedure and the reasons for it. They'd even go as far as stating what a normal procedure is, but why they're holding off. It was also obvious they understood I was a bit freaked out in the hospital and they tried their best to help me relax, whether it was shooting the shit about sports, video games, or just our jobs.

The female doctors on the other hand weren't great. They were a bit cold and aloof. The best way to describe them was "clinical". They would be visibly agitated when I would ask "why?", as if I had the audacity to question god himself. They really couldn't care less that I was nervous and saw me more as a machine to fix than an actual person.
