An observation I have seen is similar to how those whom work in mental health tend to be mentally unstable themselves.

Isn't it funny that a woman I know who majored in psychology is unhinged and easily led. She spent £500 on having her hair done to impress her depressed boyfriend. And he didn't even acknowledge it lol.

See, her boyfriend is an asexual man who is severely depressed. She nags at him constantly and desires so much for him to change. Thus this man is utterly set in his ways and i suspect he puts up with her nagging purely because it's cheaper for him to live with her. After all, she buys him things in hopes that it'll ensure his loyalty and affection. It never does and it's extremely amusing.

My theory is she is a very controlling woman. She nags at him and is always constantly unhappy because she lacks control. She says shes trapped in the relationship and can't get out but I suspect she's too committed to breaking him down. Which she most likely will never do because this guy is borderline bipolar.

Anecdotal evidence incoming:

Many of the people I knew who studied psychology/psychiatry were themselves mentally or emotionally off in some way. In a way, they are attempting to figure out how to fix themselves because they know something in their mind is off.

I am actually a Psychologist, so of course I had to interact with a ton of women in school.

Women LOVE Psychology. It's the same as why men tend to love STEM subjects and also activities that require putting things together. The sexes gravitate toward what they are interested in and what they are good at. There are a lot of possible reasons, but it probably boils down to a lot of them having depression/anxiety/other mental disorders and wanting to know more about it, being interested in people and interpersonal relationships, and perhaps so they can understand how to manipulate social situations more effectively.

Many women don't make it that far in the field. Psych majors in undergrad are overwhelmingly women, but when it gets to Psychologists with graduate degrees, you have a lot more men.

Just a heads up for any guy here thinking of majoring in Psychology. A 4-year degree is WORTHLESS. You HAVE to go for graduate degree or a Ph.D. in most cases to actually make money. I enjoy my job, make good money, and get to help people, but it was 7 years of total schooling/training.

Psychology grad here, the reason it has so many girls is :

1.) They heard it was an easy degree (too fucking true)

2.) They heard it looks better on a cv than your average mickey mouse degree (also true)

3.) Well young children are just adorable and isn't it so interesting how babies minds grow and.............

4.) I heard lots of other girls do psychology so it must be good (dat herd mentality)

5.) Any kind of vague interest in actual psychology.

Just my personal experience, I feel like many women who have mental disorders go into psychology. Also out of laziness. Psychology is interpretation. If you really want to connect dots, its not hard to connect dots. There's no definite right or wrong answer. That's why two different psychologists will give you two different answers for the same problem. Its a lot harder to be proven wrong in psychology. Which women love! Where STEM is a strict set of rules in math, chemistry, physics, etc. Two engineers should give you the same answer to the same problem.

I was in a relationship with a psychology major who is diagnosed bipolar for 4.5 years. After that was all over, over time I learned there were so many red flags(first love/serious relationship). Often telling me I had difficulty communicating....when in reality she was creating an emotionally hostile environment to communicate in. And constantly being manipulative in arguments by threatening to end the relationship in some fashion ("Maybe we should just break up" or "Do you even want to be with me", etc). It was actually after this relationship was over why it was so difficult to communicate. She would try to apply psychology on me while being in a relationship with me.....I'm fairly certain that is frowned upon by any Board of Medicine, having a relationship with a current patient. During the relationship I didn't understand what was going on. It was my first long term relationship. Ignorance is bliss...or pain. There was some major cognitive dissonance with her. And lack of self-awareness.

Psychology is BS. Most women who study it think they can read a man like a book, not realising that everything they’ve learned is not an exact science and is entirely theoretical. Working on a psychiatric ward I witnesses people get diagnosed with a certain mental illnesses and then get diagnosed with a completely different one, as the first was an error. I’ve also witnessed people who are just badly behaved and acting get diagnosed. These people with no education can outwit the psychologists with all their education. What a joke!

Those that go on to get PHd and actually working the field no. Too much work not to have a payoff money wise.

Now most that are going into psychology stopping short of a PHd or even an MBA are party girls and those getting a Mrs degree. There are exceptions who are vindictive enough to do what the OP suggests

And on top of that women prefer to go to only female therapists. Why? Cause at the end of the day they have the same bullshit agenda only now she has someone with a degree and a title to validate her.

My wife started seeing a therapist (a women) a few months ago. I thought "nice, now maybe she'll get some help for her fucked up perspectives in life). Nope, after 3 visits she came home and announced that her and her therapist have figured out that I'm a narcissist (hence my user name as a reminder of my fucked marriage). Mind you it cost me $105 per visit to come up with this conclusion.

Another common reason people take up psychology is because they have their own mental issues and hope that by studying the subject, maybe they will be able to "fix themselves".

i think it's simpler than that actually. have you ever taken a college psychology course? it's a few pages of light reading and not much work at all, maybe a paper once in a while. when i took it, class attendance hovered pretty consistently around 25 percent, maybe 50 closer to the exams.

its one of the majors that still sound somewhat impressive like a real science and not just squandering 4 years and god knows how many dollars on a meme degree. women see this minimal work major that still sound somewhat cool and interesting and they jump on it. it's the same story with art history and anthropology.

and yeah, i imagine upper division psychology is different, but by the time you're in upper division psychology, you've already somewhat committed to majoring in it.
