How can a company defend against that without being presumed guilty-by-default by society (and maybe by the jurors)? And without having their reputation tarnished while the trial is ongoing? And this, my friend, is political correctness (the real thing, not the one that gets brought by politicians): The merit of a complaint depends on the gender of the person making the allegation, despite the fact we are living in a supposedly gender-equal world.

This highly unqualified woman got an engineering position without an engineering degree, and still thought she deserved to make as much as actual engineers with much more experience and responsibility. And that was after getting multiple instances of special treatment for having a vagina.

For situations where a corporation wants to unload a bad employee without firing them: You set up a company that does 'synergistic value added technology 2.0" stuff. The company is a dummy and you have a few actors that 'work' there. You are paid by the big corporation to offer double the pay to the bad employee the want rid of and lure them away. Then your company goes out of business 3 weeks later and you set up again. Would this work? It would!
